Loaders and HGV drivers currently earn one of the lowest wages for comparable services in the area.
For loaders this is usually £10.90ph and HGV drivers are on £11.89ph.
Michael Hall, GMB regional organiser, said:
"In a cost of living crisis every worker deserves decent pay. These refuse workers are asking simply for a fair pay offer.
"They do vital work for the community across Workington. This should be recognised with a wage that covers rising bills.
"This is why they've been left with no choice but to strike."
