Evri - Members' Update on H&S - 7th May 2024

Posted on:

Dear Members

First Aid Survey Results

We wanted to update you on the recent results from the H & S Survey asking members to identify delivery units without the adequate safety measures in place such as Accident books, First Aid Kits, Spill Kits and the HSE posters.

As a result of all the information supplied, which members took time to find out and respond, the response rate was extremely good and as a result we are able to announce that the National Committee have successfully negotiated with the company to have these items provided and they are now on order ready for delivery. These items should all be rolled out in the coming months, if you responded to the survey and informed us of missing items in your DU and you don’t receive this by the end of June, please contact us directly so we can chase this up.

Future Campaigning on H & S

We are now looking at other H & S concerns and will be talking to you about these issues in the very near future and listening to what you want as a priority, for your welfare whilst you are in the depots. We will then update you on these and what we will need to campaign on to push the company into adopting. Whilst, over the last few years since the agreement was achieved, we have been focused on achieving gains for members with pay and terms and their personal issues, the committee now feel they are able to look at other aspects that affect members outside of these areas, to ensure that there is overall improvement for members.

We have seen recently some horrendous examples of where the complete lack of H & S concern from some DUs have caused extreme distress to our members and we have stepped in and got the company to rectify the situation immediately due to the immediate risks involved. Whilst we recognise that Evri run their business with the assistance of private ownership in Dus, this doesn’t mean that they can absolve their responsibilities and we intend to continue to get these facilities fit for purpose.

Smoking on site update in the aftermath of Avonmouth

In response to the Avonmouth fire we raised with the company about smoking on site and the dangers associated. They have agreed to implement a No Smoking in or near the DUs going forward, so please, if you see anyone smoking inside a DU or in the close proximity, please report to your CDM so we can ensure another fire does not occur. All DUCs have been reminded of this policy and should be enforcing it, but it is your safety and your business that is impacted by people not being responsible on site, so please do not be worried about speaking up and reporting these issues. Thankfully, no one was hurt in Avonmouth, but we cannot say that it would not happen again and with more dire consequences.

Yours on behalf of the National Committee

Daily Enquiry Emails from Evri

Dear Member

GMB members have been contacting the National Committee Reps with concerns over the daily emails being received classed as enquiries from the company and that this was causing anxiety amongst the network.

We attended the JNCF on the 25th April and raised this issue as a priority. We asked what the emails were for and the intention behind them and what the wording of the communications held.

The Company confirmed that these are daily updates following on from the request for couriers to have more visibility when customers complain and to update the courier and are an extension of the original QvD emails from 2023.

We were really concerned regarding the wording that couriers were receiving and that some of the some of the complaints are not the fault of the couriers and could be linked to the client themselves. The emails give the impression that these could be the fault of the courier, and this is causing the distress.

We have asked the company to have an overview of the enquiries and that these are checked prior to being sent to the courier to prevent the unnecessary worry, we also requested the emails contain what the query is and if there was an appeal process in place. The company confirmed that these are enquiries that could potentially lead to claims and at present not for further action but advanced notice for the courier of a potential claim. They have agreed to look at the wording of the emails and look at having a check process in place before the email is sent to ensure it is a valid query.

We are still unhappy with this and we are keeping a watch on how this progresses, we are advising you that if you receive a query email and the photograph is compliant then you do not need to take any further action but keep the email as evidence, if you have a non-compliant photo or are unsure then please speak to your CDM and/or Courier Admin.

Please keep an eye out for the meeting updates regarding the latest JNCF which will be with you next week but we felt this update was urgent.

Yours on behalf of the

Evri - Pay Model Meeting Update - 27 March 2024 Warrington - 18 April 2024

Pay Model Meeting Update – 27th March, Warrington

Raising Issues

We began by discussing the failure of issue escalation process due to changes in structures and personnel within Evri. We have agreed to a new process, which is now in place, so that we have a clear pathway for raising and escalating courier member issues more efficiently than previously.

Agreed dates for JNCFs

Thursday 25th April

Thursday 25th July

Thursday 10th October

The Company have agreed to give the National Committee a tour of the Hub, so we can see the end-to-end journey of parcels through the Hubs, including the famed Volumetric Scanners. We will be paying close attention to these Scanners, and asking questions to get a better understanding of how these work in relation to Parcel Band changes.

Pay Model

We raised concerns about the lack of involvement in the Pay Model, and told the Company that they had to rectify the situation. The Company agreed that they hadn’t engaged as much as they should have done. We insisted that they set up meetings with the member group, and these are already being booked in regionally, and we will have a collective meeting after these have completed.

Benefits

We raised the issue that the Partner Rewards/Business Essentials offerings were not being utilised by the Couriers as they were not particularly good offers. We said that the offerings available to Evri employees were significantly better, and we discussed having access to this benefit provision for couriers. Evri are taking this away to review and see if this can be arranged. We also asked about the potential for active couriers to get discounts on sending parcels through Evri (the Company have taken this away to look at).

Performance and Compliance

65 new roles are being created within the Delivery Team, sitting under the RDMs, and will be based out of each Depot. These Proactive Service Operatives will look to identify trends and highlight where behaviours could drive customer contact. There will be actions coming out of these to offer additional training to help couriers improve where they are falling short, and pick up on issues before they get to the level that would cause Improvement Notices, and WYW.

The company told us that they want to align the implementation of these across the Network, as currently there are differing experiences dependant on where you are in the country. We asked if this is a design to get rid of couriers – to which the Company went to great lengths to say that this is about addressing issues, improving the support for Couriers, and ensuring that the same processes are followed equally fairly across the Network. Local Training (provided by CDMs) will be aligned to the digital process, and Performance Score Stats and Views will mirror what the CDM has, so there will be full alignment across all channels.

IT/Delivery App/Courier Community App

We made suggestions around improvements that need to be made to the Delivery App, and we highlighted improvements for the Courier Community App (in relation to Star Ratings, Performance Metrics, and the couriers’ ability to see their daily pay). The Company are looking at improvements in the CCA so that couriers can see their performance across different timescales (daily, weekly, and Pay Period to Date).

We talked about the Company offering the ability to see what earnings the couriers have made each day (week and Pay Period to date), broke down by parcel banding, so couriers can see exactly what they have earned to date, giving couriers an accurate preview of earnings as we move through the Pay Period.

We raised an issue with the company that the ability to see the current Star Rating for the current Pay Period is vital, as the current rating covers the previous six weeks, and means that the Pay Period rating could be lower, removing the courier from their HSP.

We also talked about the option of allowing couriers to draw down on their parcel pay. We said that this could potentially lead down the path towards debt, but agreed that there are times when a courier may need to pull some money in quickly (e.g. to pay for vehicle repairs so they can continue delivering), or for those who are transitioning from weekly pay to monthly pay. We will work with Debt Charities and Citizens Advice to ensure that appropriate support is available for couriers who may be struggling.

Route Optimisation, as we all know, can route completely differently to the way the perm courier would actually plan. This is currently in scope to be upgraded to a proactive learning system, which will learn from the perm couriers and how they do the route day in, day out, so a cover courier using optimise will end up following the same route as the perm courier (making it much easier for the cover)

All in all, it was a productive meeting, and we have already seen movement in the Courier Listening Groups and the Escalations processes.

Your National Committee.

New GMB Constitution

Dear members

On behalf of the National Committee (NC) I am pleased to announce that a new constitution on how elections for the roles of NC members and the positions of Chair/Vice Chair are elected has now been adopted. This will ensure that members are fully aware of the process of election and how to get involved in electing its representatives to the NC. In addition the NC has negotiated to have further Regional Representatives (RR) of 1 per region with the company to assist with the ever growing membership and workload.

NC representatives and RR will be elected on a 3 year rolling basis from when their last term began, they must all be SE+ couriers or 194’s. I have today written out to the regional leads asking them to begin the election of NC representatives whose term is due to expire/d and for the election of a RR. Please contact your local regional lead to find out if and when elections are due to take place in your region and how you can get involved and if you would like to know more about becoming a representative.

Important Health & Safety Campaign update for Evri Couriers

Dear Evri Members,

We are pleased to share this campaign update with you on behalf of Jayson Forrow your National Committee rep. Jayson has been campaigning on your behalf for a long time to raise awareness with the company over the carrying of dangerous good by Evri Couriers without their knowledge.

He has spoken to many members who were quite rightly concerned about handling these items and the potential risk. We are pleased to say he was successful and Evri have now issued a briefing see attached link with what you should or should not be carrying, giving you greater security and peace of mind.

Rate reviews for Lifestyle, LCB & SE (not covered by the pay deal) - 2 February 2024

Posted on:

Dear members

Rate reviews for Lifestyle, LCB & SE (not covered by the pay deal)

As mentioned in the earlier communication we have now met with the company to discuss the rates negotiations that are taking place with you.

The company have stated this affects a very small amount of couriers that could have increases as well as decreases. We have been given all the figures and they have been transparent over who is affected.

In relation to the negotiations we would urge all members to negotiate and you if you unsure of what to do speak to your local representative.

Driver Cover

If you self-organise your driver cover for holidays or do courier handover, if they use one of your driver numbers they will deliver at the same rate as you but you will have to pay them directly. NB this will also mean that any performance issues on your driver numbers will be reflected upon you directly.

SE+ Pay Protection.

The PRG protection in the 2023 pay deal is being honoured and that we will be requesting that the protection continues as part of the negotiations.

Based on star rating

Couriers have disputed failures who checked their star rating every day and their system and your system have different decimal place amounts eg 4.8324.

Was paid out by Next to 12,500 couriers costing over £1m. The app shows a 6 week rolling average which demonstrates a fairer average.

Star Rating

The 6 week rolling average is confusing and does not reflect the final figure used for the month.

Couriers should be able to see a table of their daily figures and weekly figures.

Some badges are irrelevant.

New IT development should make further information available.

Customer Delivery Advice

Does the customer get the safe place details that the courier enters in the delivery app?

Neighbour number entered by courier still not sent to customer. Exact delivery details are not provided in the delivery confirmation email.

New IT development will solve these issues.

Raised multiple times. HSP should be overridden until all IT problems and processes are resolved/improved.

DU>C leg is nothing to do with a couriers performance.

Query with address, Missing, C/F, Damaged all affect couriers performance data.

Monthly tolerance of 5% as a fail safe. Raw data to be provided by EVRi to GMB to show how many couriers are failing to receive bonuses due to this.

Erratic Pension Mileage

Raised with EVRi/IT historically multiple times, no resolution, no new model data is accurate if it is based on this. It is essential we have accurate data, especially for Time on Task.

New IT development will create a more robust mileage calculation system. EVRi also recommend couriers download maps to improve the accuracy.

Courier Audit figures

2022 and 2023 Audit figures have still not been provided. Also EVRi staff is stating on Glass Door that this is an independent audit by the GMB which is not the case – raised with EVRi.

Evri -Rates Update

Dear members

We have been notified of notifications being issued by the company to members about rate reductions and changes to cover rates. Earlier this week we had asked the company for an urgent meeting to discuss these notifications and there is a meeting scheduled for Friday this week, in which your NC would be able to get the information from the company as to what has happened and then update members shortly afterwards.

At present the company have stated that no SE+ members are affected, as they have the rate protection as negotiated by the Heads of Agreement 2023 in place. The company have said this affects a small number of lifestyle couriers and LCB’s. At our meeting we will ascertain the facts and keep you updated.

GMB members have said that they have been told by their CDMs of rate reductions. The company have stressed that this should not have happened and that GMB members are protected by the 2023 Heads of Agreement. We will be asking the company for confirmation of their plans for any rate cuts from June onwards and that we will be pressing for rate protection during the negotiations.

We will update you following the discussions.

EVRI Failure to Agree and Holiday Carry-Over Update - 26th January 2024

Posted on:

Dear members,

Your National Committee has now concluded the Failure to Agree with Evri management relating to the allocation system for holiday booking. Strong opinions were put forward on how the holiday allocation should have happened because of the survey taken place with members previously. The company chose to ignore the suggestions and instead initiated a system that caused confusion and upset. As a result of this members have been left worried over carry over of leave due to having their leave requests being refused. Until the FTA was completed the carryover of leave could not be discussed and communicated to you. We can now confirm that this has now taken place because of the FTA and details are below.

FTA Outcome

As a result of the negotiations the company have agreed to revert back to the previous system of allocating holiday bookings and they have confirmed that the decisions over bookings will be made centrally removing the CDM from the process, this will commence Monday 29th January. This is what members told us was the most important aspect of the booking process. Discussions will be tabled with the GMB going forward and a working group established to look at holiday booking in more details. This now resolves the FTA and ensures it makes the whole system fair for SE+ members.

Carry Over

The National Committee have insisted that members have been unfairly treated and prevented from taking leave because of the booking system and that members should not be penalised as a result, the company were initially only allowing a carry-over of 5 days, but this has increased to 7 as a result of the negotiation and must be used within 3 months. As per past agreements members can book leave today, (can still book with cover for the last week of February, so there is the opportunity to use 6 days holiday, and still carry 7 forward). If these are rejected, you can raise with your regional reps who can raise individual issues with the company.

Any days above this will need to be booked as per previous arrangements, this should ensure no one loses financially. Please speak to your regional rep if you are unsure of this process, we will be monitoring the progress of the bookings and the company have agreed to keep us updated of the figures.

New SE+

Any new SE+ members that have not been able to book leave due to not being SE+ long enough will have the carry-over of 9 days to be used by the 1st June. Ensuring that you do not lose these days.

The company have agreed to work with us on any anomalies over this process.

This now concludes the end of the FTA and resolves the carry-over of leave situation.

On behalf of the National Committee.

GMB Evri Bulletin - Holiday FTA - Update - 12 January 2024

Posted on:

HOLIDAY FTA – UPDATE

Dear members,

Please see this update on the outstanding holiday FTA.

Firstly, please accept my apologies for the delay in taking this matter forward.

By way of explanation, in October ACAS were contacted to seek their assistance as per the web update.

They replied that they both needed to confirm they could assist (given that members aren’t technically employees), and also to allow the Company to respond.

The latter point was because the Agreement provides that the involvement of ACAS is a matter for discussion between the Legal Director and National Officer.

As we were in the middle of the pay balloting I didn’t note the length of time it took the Company to respond after acknowledging the FTA.

On the 3rd November I again contacted the Company and they responded on the 9th.

However at that stage we were dealing with a significant number of issues relating to the implementation of the pay deal, that needed to take priority.

As members will know this itself resulted in two further FTA’s being submitted on separate issues and not being resolved until mid-December.

At this point I had intended to pursue the outstanding Holiday FTA but unfortunately was unable to do this prior to Christmas.

However upon my return from leave this matter has been picked up again, and we are planning to meet the Company urgently in attempt to resolve the matter.

Were it not for the pay talks, implementation and workload issues then we would have concluded this matter earlier, but unfortunately that hasn’t transpired.

As a note, should we use ACAS to support talks, they are considered confidential and they won’t release details to anyone outside the parties involved, that would be a matter for GMB to disseminate updates.

Once again apologies for the delays on this matter, I trust that this update provides an explanation for members.

INTRODUCING NEW GMB NATIONAL LEAD OFFICER FOR EVRI

Dear Members

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Gill Ogilvie as the new GMB National Lead for Evri members. We have been working together over the past couple of months while the pay negotiations were being concluded to ensure a smooth transition.

Gill is an experienced colleague who already leads on other courier employers within GMB, so this move will ensure that all Final Mile members are led out of National Office by a single Officer, which makes very clear industrial sense for GMB members in the industry.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with members and the National Committee and would hope that members welcome Gill into the fold and continue to support her and the National Committee into the future.

Gill Ogilvie said

“I am looking forward to working closely with the Evri National Committee, who have dedicated themselves to delivering the very best for members on individual and collective issues and continuously stand up against any injustices. I will be starting by working on the delivery of the Pay Model discussions as well as planning other improvements with the national committee ensuring that the welfare of our members is at the forefront of everything we do. I will be spending some of my time visiting sites over the coming year and I look forward to meeting members when I do.

I would also like to thank Eamon for all that he has done for Evri members and I’m confident that with his assistance in this handover period that we will continue to grow and develop within the organisation.”

In the meantime, please continue to raise your enquiries through your National Committee reps and we will keep you updated with any updates regarding the Pay Model discussions and the National meetings as normal.

Yours in solidarity

Eamon O’Hearn and Gill Ogilvie

Monday Meeting - Minutes 12/12/2023

*Pension* - Update on Pension mileage issue (Originally raised January 2023)
Mileage shown for pension has been fluctuated from 1 to 99 miles

08/12 - Can we have an update please?

12/12 – GMB Sent across examples, IT looking at it, Evri stated in one case courier had not downloaded maps. Evri asked for further details.

*Super Sundays* - Super Sundays were raised in the JNCF, where we asked the company to review the payments, and the process, for the SS

08/12 - How did the not-so-Super Sunday go? Did we cap the volume? Feedback
Some South West members forced to sign a contract to work Super Sundays? Asked to send copy of contract.
In Scotland some couriers told do volume or lose rounds.

12/12 – Pretty standard Sunday, no issues. A bit heavy volume now. We did not cap volume, slightly more volume than we normally do. Previous Sunday 2.5M & Monday 2.4M Total 4.9M. This Sunday 500k and 2.9M on Monday.

Monday not the busiest Monday and a 1.5 M drop v 4.9M last weekend. Confirmed Super Sunday are voluntary, there are no contracts.

*Holiday Carry Forwards* - The Number of Days Holiday available to be carried forward was raised in the Nov JNCF.

08/12 - We really need a decision on this, as it will impact on Courier's ability to take holidays in January
12/12 Need a separate meeting to resolve this, use the call at start of next week. Ensure resolved before Christmas.

Action: Utilise Monday’s call

*RDCF Escalations* - RDCF Escalations for issues taken to multiple RDCFs, but remain unresolved.
08/12 - Declined holidays raised at RDCFs and promised to be looked into, but no response to any emails now. ALL EMAILED TO ADM AGAIN.

12/12 - Conor confirmed would speak to ADM’s and ensure they resolved any outstanding issues.

*Cyber Security* - Remember that your Delivery App PIN gives you access to customer’s personal data whilst delivering. If others get access to your Password/PIN, you are no longer in control of that information.

07/12 - The only circumstances in which you should share your Password/PIN is with your substitute, if they are delivering under your Courier ID.
We need to ensure that the Couriers have an option to change their PIN in order to share with a substitute, and then change it afterwards. This is required to ensure security of data.

12/12 – Raised with IT this morning. A plan for enhanced security in pipeline. Individual Pin - 2 factor authentication.

Add to the agenda for meeting, plan for next year.

AOB

*Volume spike* - Volume up this week yet splits put back together and some couriers saying too much volume.

This was probably the original plan but where volumes have increased need to re-look at the plan, suggested if an issue flag locally and Evri will confirm in comms too. Evri confirmed that if courier did not want the split volume to speak to their CDM for support.

*Peak couriers* - GMB asked for clarification that the peak couriers would be used for holiday cover going forwards.

Evri confirmed this and said they would also be reviewing LCB’s.

*Problematic DU’s for SE+ Holiday cover* - Is there an updated problematic DUs list?

Evri are reviewing the list now and then will update GMB.

*Studio and Sports Direct as packets* - Studio and Sports Direct – still coming through vans 21k as a packet when should have been Light and Large

Evri confirmed will still be a tail of things coming through , so follow the normal process, whilst it feeds through the system.

Monday Meeting – Minutes 04/12/2023

*Pension* - Update on Pension mileage issue (Originally raised January 2023)
Mileage shown for pension has been fluctuated from 1 to 99 miles

01/12 - Can we have an update please?

01/12 – GMB Sent across examples, Evri passed on to courier pay team to investigate & respond.

*Misbands* - Misband process and Challenging band change upgrade decisions (Originally raised January 2023)

01/12 - Studio and Sports Direct are sending a lot of standard/large parcels through banded as packets. All seem to be labelled as 200g.

Also, when couriers are leaving misbands, CDMs sending Service Reviews saying they must take the misbanded parcels

  1. Studio and sports direct – Evri escalated to client team and raising issue directly with clients.
  2. Service reviews – couple of examples. Evri to review and Nathan discussed with ADM. Photos are required for evidence to be shared to show mis-banding.

Local examples shared – advice given to take photos.

Evri raised courier didn’t want to take boxes so ADM is investigating but local conversations agreed to resolve.

*Holiday* - Can we have the background detail behind holidays

01/12 - Couriers from non-problematic DUs are being refused Holidays. Holiday requests are still being approved through CDMs, not planners

Evri asked for specifics and asked Nathan to send over details. Nothing has specifically changed so if it is certain sites, we will deal with regionally via RDM’s.

Evri confirmed they had asked all ADMs to deal directly with GMB reps, so all are resolved this week.

Nathan to follow up.

*Peak* - Placemarker for all Peak related updates

Cancellation of 3rd super Sunday – comms coming out this afternoon to all of the courier network.

Based on strong peak so far so in control on volume and also volume lower than forecasted, so will revert to a normal Sunday on 10th Dec.

Small increase on usual Sunday but nothing substantial. Expected a 2.7 day which already done.

Normal Sunday rates apply.

Great performance, other than a few small hotspots / weather impacted but had a strong weekend.

*Historic Invoices* - A lot of archived invoices are missing from Docuware

01/12 - Couriers are still missing historical invoices. Timelines vary, but this needs to be resolved. Rhian was to be looking into this.

Rhian confirmed invoices are stored for 2 years, however if the courier has been inactive for 6 months it is revoked, but they can request through courier admin if they need access.

A further 5 years can be requested through courier admin.

Rhian has asked for specific cases if required and can ask the department to investigate.

Nathan asked if this included Daily pay statements, of which Rhian confirmed showed for 6 months

Nathan confirmed this makes sense and can comms to couriers if they ask.

*2023 PayDeal* - Placemarker for Progress Updates on 2023 Paydeal

27/11 - When are the SE+ members getting confirmation of their banding, and backpay amounts? All rate card detail removed from CCA.
Evri - All comms to those required will be out within the next hour or so, before 2pm today 27/11/23. Will be too late for cut off but will be dealt with separately. Evri asked for clarification on rate card being removed. Nathan confirmed it was removed last week but assumed it was part of the review and would be put back on. Evri will check on this afternoon and will revert with clarification
Evri confirmed completed and queries responded to.

Nathan asked for rate cards – Evri looked into this and couldn’t see any issue. Evri will look at this once more.

*COSHH* - Prohibited items being transported in packaging not fit for purpose

REOPENED 01/12 - We have had multiple occasions recently where dangerous items have been sent through the network - Butane Gas and Fireworks being just two of the items. A courier yesterday received another box within a bag - fortunately the bag was ripped and you could see the contents of the box as Butane Gas. No markings on the outside bag. We would like to arrange a discussion to define which items should be prohibited and not be carried.
More cases of Butane gas coming in Black shrink wrap. Evri raised directly with commercial manager of weekend, and they have communicated to client that those items are no longer to be sent through the network, and confirmed once more all prohibited items are on website. Evri asked Nathan and any other examples to be sent directly so we can speak to commercial managers. Nathan raised issue with insurance company that are not supportive of carrying prohibited items such as glass, alcohol and may not be insured. Evri will speak to legal to understand this point.

Evri asked if a specific insurer or context of anything raised. Nathan confirmed asked his insurer generic query if had accident and something in car on prohibited list, would his insurance be valid. Insurer explained possibly may not be insured. Nathan spoke to other brokers, and they said grey area.

Jayson has provided some examples on email for Evri to review and respond. Also confirmed his insurer always asks if carrying dangerous goods. Evri asked if they have defined what dangerous goods, so must have confirmed what they consider those items to be – we need to understand with legal to provide a response.

Action: Evri to discuss with legal to understand this.

*Super Sundays* - Super Sundays were raised in the JNCF, where we asked the company to review the payments, and the process for the SS

01/12 - Performance update from yesterday - how did the second Super Sunday go?
Super Sundays performed very well.

*Holiday Carry Forwards* - The Number of Days Holiday available to be carried forward was raised in the Nov JNCF.

23/11 - Rolling agenda point - placeholder
Roll this forward please

*RDCF Escalations* - RDCF Escalations for issues taken to multiple RDCFs but remain unresolved.

  • Couriers have had holiday bookings declined when in non-problematic DUs, or where there is sufficient cover available.
  • Solus van turned up without parcels. Courier called CDM who said would get out on another van, however parcels given to contractors in DU. Courier needs compensating for loss of work.
Member promised £40 by CDM for covering two rounds. 2 RDCFs have responded with "it will be in the next invoice" but it has not been paid
  • Member still not received his STAR bonus or backpay as promised in two RDCFs. ADM promised would sort, but still not done. Issue Identified

  • Member didn't receive P7 bonus due to DU>C failed at 95%. Always gets DU handshake so is delivering 100% of parcels available to her.

ADM’s resolving any outstanding issues.

*Superdrug* - Multiple parcels being sent with same barcode

Superdrug when get busy use stores to support their main hub – had issue with printing of labels and now rectified as only a specific store created issue. Now resolved but please raise anything further if see in network.

AOB

Member showing as SE+ but not accruing holiday – now resolved but has asked for more information on payments. Also raised has 22 days to take before end of holiday year and asked if they can roll over.

Evri will ask local team review when details send through, so it is resolved locally and closed out.

Evri - Failure to Agree - Calculation of Back Pay - 11 December 2023

Posted on:

Dear Evri member

We issued a Failure to Agree (FTA) with the company regarding the calculation of back pay as this has caused countless issues for our members. We have held a meeting with the company today to discuss the FTA. The company have agreed to review how the payments were calculated, this was originally just based on your parcel rate pay. Due to the national committees representations they have now agreed to include other elements – these are holidays booked including bank holidays, other ad hoc, return to depot payments, and adjustments for mis bands. We believe that this is a fair compromise and the company are making the calculations and issuing the adjustments in the near future. This has now concluded the failure to agree.

Please ensure that if you have any issues relating to the back pay or pay deal bandings then these need to be raised with courier admin as soon as possible so they can investigate you case. The contact is courier.admin@evri.com and if you haven’t notified your rep please cc them in for information.

Pay Award Update

Posted on:

Dear Members,

We have received feedback from some members regarding potential discrepancies related to the pay award for this year.

There are thousands of couriers who are receiving their back pay and increases, as per the offer, though in a process of that size, we are not surprised if some discrepancies are identified.

Please recognise that although we are not in control of courier pay, we wanted to reassure members that where they have contacted us, we are logging their concerns.

These are being worked through systematically with the Company in order to resolve them.

We appreciate that this may be frustrating, but we would ask for your patience and to continue to treat all members of the National Committee with respect and dignity as we work on this together.

Yours in union,

GMB National Committee.

Evri - Urgent Update for members affected by Lifestyle to SE+ Switch - 23 November 2023

Posted on:

EVRI Lifestyle to SE+ FTA only

Dear Members

This is an urgent update to the members affected by the lifestyle to SE+ switch in relation to the Failure to agree that we informed you about earlier during the week.

We have today met with the company to discuss the FTA and have agreed the following process.

  • Members that had a reduction of less than 13% before the GMB increase will be processed immediately if they have already sent back the offer email.
  • Members that were reduced by more than 13% the company have agreed to reissue offer emails fixing at a maximum of 13% reduction before the GMB increase. If you are willing to accept you will need to respond to the revised email offer, you will need to respond within 24 hours in an attempt to prevent a delay in backdated payments.
  • If you have received an offer email that was already above 13% and you agreed this then the company are going to reissue you with a revised offer of a deduction of a maximum of 13% reduction before the GMB increase.

**This will now bring a conclusion to the Failure To Agree.

Evri- Rate Reductions - SE+ Process - 21 November 2023

Posted on:

Dear Members,

We have been contacted by members over the weekend who have informed us about rate reductions as part of the conversion to SE+ process.

As a result we have called an urgent meeting with the company. The company have implemented a process of resetting rates before applying the pay award - at no point was this ever raised or discussed with the GMB. This has put some members at detriment and as such, we have been left with no alternative other than to raise a Failure to Agree, which we have done so with immediate effect.

As part of the Failure to Agree we have stated that all conversions should be held in abeyance until a resolution is found, and a Face to Face meeting is urgently being arranged.

TO ALL LIFESTYLE TO SE+ MEMBER SWITCHERS

If you have not already replied to the SE+ email, please reply stating "I am awaiting direction from the GMB"

We will keep you all updated as soon as we have any further information.

Evri - Super Sundays - 20 November 2023

Posted on:

Dear members

Evri management have informed the GMB that they are asking couriers if they wish to volunteer for the Super Sundays. The GMB have expressed concern on behalf of members and asked the company to consider alternatives to their suggestion which is getting the increased volume out on the Monday following Super Sunday for those that did not want to volunteer.

Members quite rightly are concerned over lack of adequate breaks with the potential to work 27 days without rest and that previously they had preferred to filter the deliveries throughout their normal deliveries the following week. This is what we have stated to the company and that this would fall in line with a previous agreement that GMB had with Evri in 2019. We have questioned Evri on why they are changing this previously agreed process and still awaiting a response. We would like to know what you think and ask if you can answer a few questions in the survey link below.

Evri - Monday Meeting Minutes - 13th November 2023

Posted on:

Monday Meeting – Minutes

13th November 2023

Complaints Panel - Couriers waiting on responses from the Complaints Panel

Issue will be updated this week.

2023 Pay Deal - Place marker for Progress Updates on 2023 Paydeal

We have noticed that the Photographs have been switched on for Postables, which we note is extremely quick considering the paydeal was only confirmed as accepted last week. As this is going live before 25th November when rates increase, can we assume that everything in the paydeal is now live, or will be backdated? Specifically, RtD, Postable increase to 65%? Will these also be backdated?
Will the company tell each Courier what their calculation will be on the PayDeal?

CO - Due to the IT freeze over Peak, we had to switch the photographs on now, or not be able to do so until January. The increase for RtD and Postables will not go live until 25th Nov, and there will be no backdating. Every LS>SE+ switcher will get a letter telling them their banding and benefits; each SE+ courier will get a similar letter with their banding.

Super Sundays - Super Sundays were raised in the JNCF, where we asked the company to review the payments, and the process, for the SS.

Couriers are stating that they will not cover Sunday parcels as they are not Sunday couriers, or that they do not want the additional work at such a busy period. In 2017 it was made clear that the GMB would not support members working 20 days in succession, it's now 27 days in succession, stating it could breach the Transport Act 1968 and was further supported by the Health and Safety at Work Act. We have requested that the company review the Super Sunday payment as we believe that the Company is not properly compensating couriers for the additional work and loss of their only day off. This payment has not changed since pre-Covid, and is simply too low.

CO – We have been planning additional resource around these volumes and there are currently no plans to change to what has been offered as an incentive for the Super Sundays.

"Green" Email - Communication to customers to say "don't use couriers, use parcel shops?"

Whilst the GMB agree with the concept of being more environmentally friendly, we don't agree with taking parcels off couriers.

CO – we have more couriers than ever, delivering more volume than ever, and the Company is obviously aware that it needs to be mindful of its environmental impact, and looking to ensure that it takes steps to become more environmentally friendly. This is a benefit, giving more choice to the customer, and will mean clients will put more volume through the company as they are aware of more choice for customers and greener credentials.

RtD – RMs still refusing to pay RtD

RMs continually decline RtD. This needs to stop, and RMs need to be told to approve these, as do all DMs. All declined RtDs need to be retrospectively paid.
Can you also please clarify when the decision was made to stop RtD payments for multi round-holders? The RTD payments have always been paid to all couriers, irrespective of the amount of rounds. This was taken to you and Dan about 2 years ago as we had an RDM who stated that the payments were for single round holders. We asked for it to be recommunicated out to managers that it applied to multi round holders, and both Conor and Dan agreed that there had been no change and the payments still applied to multi round holders.

CO - ADM has tried to get in contact with TB. ADM is sorting out process going forward, but there is no plan for backdating and previously declined RtD payments;

GMB - queried RtD not being available for multi-round holders;

CO - not sure that this was ever anything other than single round holders;

GMB – provided minutes from Monday meeting 31-01-2022;

CO – to review internally and come back with a response.

Holiday Carry Forwards - The Number of Days Holiday available to be carried forward was raised in the Nov JNCF.

When raised, Conor said that this would be confirmed at a later date. We need to have this as an agenda item to ensure that it does not fall off the radar.

CO – keep this as a place holder so it is not missed.

SE+ Holiday Backlog - Couriers returning off SE+ holiday to backlog

The SE+ Paid Holiday: FAQs document states on page 5:
3. Will I return from holiday to a backlog of parcels?
No. Either the Evri provided cover courier or your substitute (depending on which option you choose) will have delivered the parcels in your absence.
Couriers are being told that it's their responsibility, or having the backlog re-manifested, and are being pressured to take this backlog. This should not be happening. Couriers should be offered the option to deliver the backlog at a premium, or the company should have these delivered on the manifested day.

CO – There has been no change to that process; SE+ holiday backlog is not the responsibility of the courier. If they can help, then that’s nice, but it is not their responsibility. Reps should pick up issues with Area Managers, and raise to Conor if continued ongoing issue, or people are being forced to take backlog or re-manifested parcels.

AOB

Un-manifested parcels – Couriers concerned that they are not being paid for them

CO says that all un-manifested parcels get paid.

SS payments P10 and P11 – Last year they were all paid in P10.

CO said that this caused issues with incorrect invoices, so the Company is sticking with 2 in P10 and 1 in P11

Courier showing as SE+, and receiving SE+ uplift payments, but no holiday accrual, and unable to book.

CO chasing to find out what’s happening. Team investigating and will find out what’s wrong – Hopefully will have an answer today

CCA performance app – CCA showing incorrect figures, and couriers concerned this could be used against them to remove rounds/work.

IT stated that the payments are made using a different system, and the Company know about the figures being wrong on CCA.

CO - aware that this issue is under investigation, and know that the figures showing on the CCA are not 100%, but stress that the figures the Company use for Bonus payments and Courier Performance reviews are done from the main system, not the CCA. IT are working to get the CCA figures correct for the courier.

EVRI JNCF Meeting Notes 07/11/23

Dear Members

The GMB National Committee met with Evri management on Tuesday and raised several issues on your behalf. We are still awaiting a response from the company on the issue of Super Sundays and will update you as soon as we have a formal response.

Declined Holidays

Members have reported that CDMS are declining holidays for SE+ 2 days holiday requests during peak without full and proper reasons. The company have stated that the agreed process of requesting holidays should be followed and will issue a reminder to CDMS’ of this process. If members are having issues with the requests, can they let their reps know so these issues can be escalated locally on their behalf.

Late Trailers

Issues were raised with regard to late trailers and the knock on effect of delaying couriers from getting their parcels loaded and delivered. The company recognised that this has happened but they insisted every effort has been taken to minimise this, but exceptions will happen.

Manifests

The issue of couriers being told they cannot leave before their manifests are finalised. The company have said this should not be happening. Manifests can be completed at the end of the round run and they will remind CDM’s of the process. Please do not forget to do this if you do go out without the manifest.

Staffing & facilities

We raised the issue of staffing in DU’s and the company stated that DU’s have been given extra money for employing extra staff during peak and this should be in place. They confirmed that no sorting should be taking place unpaid and want to be informed immediately of anyone receiving less than the minimum wage, they will investigate the cases we have raised immediately and rectify. We need members to keep us informed if they are aware of this happening so this can be dealt with swiftly. The lack of facilities available for couriers was raised and we will keep raising the substandard environments couriers are facing in the field and the lack of rain shelters and toilet facilities. The Reps will be coming out to speak to you about these issues in the New Year.

Green Cards

The company have reiterated that Green carded items need to be dealt with appropriately and not be returned to the courier, staff have been employed and trained to ensure this doesn’t happen, but we have seen evidence of items being continuously returned.

Couriers/members are not to take the parcels and to send them back and if this continues to report so this can check barcodes to see where this is happening.

Peak Super Sundays

Member have strongly expressed their concerns over Super Sundays and we made the company aware that they need to think of alternative ways of dealing with the extra volume on these days. Whilst the company maintain the days are voluntary, if couriers don’t undertake them and the work is still there on the Monday then they are expecting you to still deliver the rounds alongside your normal output. We stated this was unacceptable and want to know what the company expectation is if couriers/members do not undertake the additional work. We are awaiting a response on this and will feed back asap. We have made alternative suggestions and await to see if the company will take these on board.

EVRI - Update to Email Address for Expression of Interest in Transferring to SE+ - 11 October 2023

Posted on:

Dear Lifestyle Courier members,

The email address for the initial expression of interest in transferring to SE+ has now been updated: courieroptions@hermes-europe.co.uk

Upon emailing you will receive an acknowledgment email about your expression to transfer – please keep this email safe.

The Company will then be in touch separately with further information requests in order to process your transfer request.

Please remember that if you wish to transfer, you need to be a GMB member, as this is an element of the pay offer that applies to GMB members.

Our advice is that you ensure you have joined, so you have a membership number, prior to completing the paperwork you receive from Evri.

This will also ensure we can verify that you are indeed a GMB member when seeking to transfer.

If you have any queries please ensure you contact your National Committee Reps for assistance:

Posted on:

Dear members,

Firstly, we’d like to thank you for you patience over the past few months as we’ve been involved in very intense negotiations with the Company.

We understand that it has taken longer than perhaps expected, but we wanted to reassure members that we have taken our time to ensure that we can present the best offer possible to members.

In particular we have wanted to ensure that members are offered a substantive increase in your PRG, and that we also tried to ensure the lowest earners were prioritised in the current cost of living crisis.

Evri - Pay Offer - Points of Clarification

        Posted on:

        Dear Members,

Following the recent online meetings, and in advance of the next two, please see below points of clarification sought by members:

        1. For the purposes of calculating the average pay for couriers, has the Company included:

        • Your daily average pay for P2/3/4 will be based on days worked;
        • Bank Holidays - Not Included
        • VAT - Not Included
        • Admin fees - Not Included
        • Holiday pay - Included
        • Bonuses - Included
        • Pension payments - Evri contribution will be Included/ Courier Contribution will not be Included
        • RtD/Ad-Hoc payment - Included
        • 2022 GMB Pay deal payments - Included

        2. Where a courier delivers their own round on their PRG, but also another round which has a higher round rate (so they get paid that instead of PRG), will we see both rates rise?

The Rate increase will only apply to the couriers own PRG.

        3. Can you please clarify how you are splitting out Driver performance from the courier performance?

All calculations will be based on courier ID.

        4. Where a GMB member courier has not been active in P2/3/4, but wishes to move to SE+ as part of the pay deal, are they able to follow the process defined and "upgrade" to SE+ (with the understanding that they would not qualify for the % increase or backdated increase)? If so, would they also then receive the rest of the benefits outlined in the deal?

Any courier who was not active in P2/3/or 4 will not be eligible for any part of this deal and at this point will not be able to transfer to SE+. They will however be able to do so when SE+ reopens. Anyone who is on long term sick, maternity leave or acting up as a CDM are considered to be ‘active’.

        GMB National Committee

Evri - New Earnings Model - First Meeting

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

Yesterday your National Committee met with the Company for the first time to commence joint working on a new pay model as per the commitment in this year’s pay offer (Item 6 below):

A commitment to working together to review the pay model (in line with the attached project scope/plan). Kick off meeting on 9th October.

We know that this is an important commitment in the current pay offer especially as the review will cover key issues such as time on task and blended rates.

Today the Company provided more specific details on a number of potential workstreams which GMB reps will be involved in over the three phases of the project.

There are tentative dates for the commencement of these working groups however our priority is the success of the current ballot, so it is anticipated that work will commence shortly into November.

In addition to the working groups there will be dedicated regular meetings with National Committee specifically on the project.

When the workstreams and dates are finalised we will publish them so that members can see the subject matter and frequency of meetings.

Overall the National Committee welcomed the start of the process as committed, and confirmation that GMB reps would be involved from start to finish.

We also welcomed the commitment to both joint working, but also acknowledging that there is likely to be a need to hold negotiations next year regarding the final impact and version of any new model.

From the National Committee’s point of view, this is the crucial first step in a long process to secure a simpler, better pay model.

        Yours in union,

        GMB National Committee

        Evri - 4 Oct 23 Meeting - Holiday FTA Update - 5th October 2023

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

At meeting held on the 4th October 2023, the Holiday FTA was our first and primary point discussion.

The background and current position of the issue was discussed, where we emphasised the multiple occasions over the past months where we had provided the Company with feedback, suggestions and advice.

This was acknowledged and in response the Company proposed that we establish a working group to pick up the outstanding issues within a quick timeframe, and if no agreement could be reached, we then sought assistance from ACAS.

Given that the National Committee have spent months raising these issues, without any traction, we did not see the point of entering another working group, and then having to escalate to ACAS if we could not reach agreement, so we rejected the offer.

Instead we told the Company that we would be seeking to formally engage ACAS to assist with conciliation and negotiations with a view to a resolution.

This did not preclude any discussions, and indeed a resolution, leading up to any ACAS hearing, but we were not prepared to enter talks without an agreed date at ACAS first.

The Company understood our view, though understandably they have their own perspective.

As a result we have formally notified the Company and ACAS that we are seeking to convene a meeting at ACAS to take forward the FTA.

Once we have any further updates we will update members.

        Yours in union,

        GMB National Committee

Evri - Pay Model Review Proposal and Timeline

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

As part of the JNNF negotiations the Company has withdrawn all it’s claims for this year.

In part they have done so to draw attention to their commitment to jointly reviewing the current earnings model.

This commitment is the link to the last JNNF, which had a provision relating to a review and implementation of a new model for this year, but ultimately this work never commenced.

The current review proposal – link below – outlines a joint process, but also references the need for negotiations with GMB next year too (this will also be uploaded to the GMB Evri web board shortly). It shows the intended timelines between October and May next year, areas of work, references to issues like time on task and ultimately, negotiations too.

The appointment of a consultancy to guide the work is another welcome sign of the intent to pick up this piece of work.

GMB Reps and Officers will be involved throughout the process once it commences, and will be in regular contact with members throughout the process.

        Yours in union,

        GMB National Committee

        Dear members,

We held another intensive and ultimately positive meeting with the Company on Monday.

We made good progress on a number of issues and ahead of the next meeting, each party is sense checking the positions we have reached.

This is important as we know members are conscious that elements of last year's JNNF agreement that ultimately weren't implemented.

There are still areas to be bottomed out and they will be the primary focus of our next meeting.

        CURRENT PAY TALKS UPDATE

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

There had been tentative plans to meet the Company today to further the current pay talks.

However the Company advised that it would, in fact, not be able to hold substantive discussions on key issues as they, and we, had hoped.

This is understandable in negotiations and the Committee instead took time to review housekeeping matters and progress to date, including the outstanding non-pay issues such as the changes to holidays.

Pay talks are likely to pick up in September again.

        Dear GMB Member,

Please see video update from the recent talks.

There has been further progress on pay however on single rate/misbandings, there is still some distance between the parties.

The National Committee are aware of the importance of this issue to members.

Therefore they have agreed to advise members that until further notice from the National Committee, all misbands should be green-carded and left at Depot/DU’s.

We are looking at a further meeting in the next fortnight.

Progress is being made on pay but there is still some distance between us regarding your claim for a single rate.

The Team are very clear about the importance of this issue, so we believe it is best to take our time, and we are willing to explore options for addressing misbanding as part of the overall talks.

Ultimately the final decision on any offer will lie with members.

We have two further meetings scheduled up to the middle of August where we hope to continue making progress.

2023 JNNF Pay Negotiations – Update

        Posted on:

        Hi all

We wanted to keep you up to date on the progress of the pay talks, and to let you know what happened in Thursday’s meeting.

        Pay and Conditions

The company came back to us with a new proposal that was based on a substantive increase to rates, rather than the lump sum previously tabled.

During the discussion we again outlined to the Company the rationale behind your claim of 20%, and whilst the amount of any increase is still subject to negotiation, the shift in emphasis was welcomed.

We were asked to confirm a monetary figure for a Return to Depot payment, and we tabled £10.

There have also been some positive discussions and movements regarding rate protection and SE+ re-opening.

        Flat Rate

This has been an area of intense discussion, with the Company tabling a proposal, which we discussed in great detail.

Ultimately we reached the conclusion that this proposal would not address the issues members experienced, so in response we reverted back to the position in the claim.

This still remains a key area of negotiation for the Committee.

Both parties have taken on board the others views and the Company will be come back with revised positions at our next meeting on the 27th July.

PAY MEETING UPDATE - THURSDAY, 6TH JULY 2023

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

Firstly, thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the initial Company proposals and once again apologies for the delay in alerting members to that update.

Please see below a short note covering the most recent pay meeting with Evri on Thursday 6th July.

The results of the survey referenced above were outlined to the Company, in particular reinforcing the strength of feeling amongst members regarding their preference for consolidated pay increase for 2023, not a lump sum payment.

As a consequence there was a very general discussion regarding a consolidated increase for members in 2023, and a limited (by time) discussion on mis-banding.

There was further exploratory discussion around the scope of any offer, potential timelines and processes for balloting.

No firm proposals were tabled by the Company, but your National Committee were clear that this was a step in the right direction.

Please contact your local Rep for any further details or questions.

EVRI 'INITIAL RESPONSE' TO PAY CLAIM 2023

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

Please see below the *initial response* from the Company to your pay claim for this year.

We have cut and pasted directly from the response so that members can see the information without any ‘spin’ from GMB.

It clearly does not address some elements of your claim, but does represent a starting point for further negotiations.

The National Committee will be taking soundings from members via a short survey, in order to gauge your feedback – this survey can be found here: https://forms.office.com/e/CjNCrgGieD

Please feel free to share the details with other members and to contribute your thoughts back into the National Committee as we head into further talks.

At this stage we have dates for further talks pencilled in for 6th, 13th and 27th July.

We will continue to keep members updated as best we can as we go forward.

Lastly, please continue to encourage Couriers who are not GMB members to join up and support the pay claim submitted for 2023.

        Yours in Union,

        GMB National Committee

        Initial Company Offer

This is designed to focus on the financial elements of your claim initially, to then give us the opportunity to discuss some of the other points at later meetings:

        • A one off payment of £1,000 on average to SE+ GMB Member couriers who:
          • Were a GMB member as at 31 May 2023; and
          • Were an SE+ courier as at 31 May 2023.

And, who do not fall into one or more of the following categories:

        • Earned >£125 per day on average in the period P4 2022 to P3 2023
        • Have had a rate increase in the period P10 2022 to P3 2023 inclusive

As discussed, we are prepared to be flexible on these categories to ensure that your members believe we are treating them fairly.

        • A new Reliability Incentive, worth up to c.£315 per year, for all SE+ couriers.
        • Assuming the above was agreed, we would then protect the rate of all GMB members who qualified for the one off payment – its not in our interests to be seen as giving with one hand and taking with another.

We also have a number of changes which we want to agree with you in order to improve our service to clients and customers and to make sure our current incentives are proportionate to the amount of service that a courier provides:

        • 50% HSP for “Part Time” couriers.

We are willing to discuss what is meant by “Part Time”, but our proposal is anyone who is “Part Time” would receive 50% HSP (so £2.25 per day instead of the current £4.50). This is in line with our desire to incentivise our SE+ couriers to provide service on more hours/days and to ensure that our HSP accurately reflects the amount of service that a courier provide to us

        • An increase in the Speed of Service Courier to Customer leg to 99%.

Delivering or attempting to deliver parcels on the day of receipt is the core tenet of a service the courier provides and is also a key metric by which clients judge us. We therefore understandably want to drive improvement in this area so we can keep current volume and win new volume on the back of improved service levels

        • A £15 charge for each failed Safe Place Photo audit (subject to a max charge of £15 per week).

This would replace the current process of withholding HSP for couriers with high claims, something which we understand is unpopular as couriers believe a claim can be outside of their control and there is a lack of information on these. By contrast, taking a compliant Safe Place Photo (“SPP”) is very much within a courier’s control. It seems to us right that those small number of couriers who are failing to take compliant photos are disincentivised to do this, so that we can protect clients and volume for the vast vast majority of couriers who go about their work diligently and take pride in the quality of their SPPs.

You also asked me specifically to respond to the claim for a blended rate. Our initial view is that a blended rate will significantly damage our ability to remain competitive in the packet/postable market, particularly against Royal Mail which as you know from our presentation, is already able to significantly undercut us on price. Whilst we of course understand the desire for a blended rate, I think we would all agree that this cannot come at the cost of reduced volume.

However we do hear loud and clear that your members are challenging us to improve what they perceive to be the issue around misbands and this is something that we will look to discuss further with you when we next meet.

Holidays (*when I say SE+, I also mean the 194)

We are still in negotiations with the Company over their proposals to amend the holiday booking process.

By way of background, the original SE+ agreement provided for a limit on SE+ Holiday leave, however no specific limits were ever agreed. Your National Committee has been fighting since 2020 to resist the Company proposal to implement a strict 15% limit in place for all couriers.

We understand that there are problem areas, where there are issues getting enough cover, and that this will impact on service, failed rounds and backlog; in these areas we support fair and measured proposals to manage this shortfall.

However, it’s important to point out that these coverage issues are almost always not related to holiday coverage.

We have told the company that there should be no restrictions or holiday limits in areas without these coverage issues, and that the areas with coverage issues are targeted for recruitment campaigns and additional support for the CDMs to help recruit more cover. We have suggested that the use of Lifestyle and LCB be explored, and that SE+ holidays are to take priority over any other holidays. With c.35% SE+ and 65% Lifestyle and LCB, there should be sufficient cover already in place.

We have advised the Company that the current proposals need revising and they are coming back with a proposal that removes restrictions in all but the most difficult areas, and one that removes any authorisations from the CDMs. We have stated that the CDMs should only be used to convey messages about the holidays (how much cover is available, and when), and to take the lead on holiday planning. Longer term, this won’t be as much of an issue – it’s just the initial timing that has created issues.

The Company are coming back with a proposal on Tuesday 13th June.

This year, we spent the first meeting discussing the financial position of the Company (they are poor and cannot afford much money), and our counter position that the Company is in good health, evidenced in part by their Directors and shareholders receiving £1.5m and £150m respectively last year.

We used the information you provided us to paint a picture of just how much the couriers are hurting financially, and how this is impacting on the Couriers’ willingness to put up with barely making any money, and to start moving elsewhere. We made it very clear to the Company that unless we see some serious movement on wages, couriers would not be in the best frame of mind to dig in and do additional work. This would in turn cause issues with Clients, with some ready to walk, and some having already walked.

We pointed out the benefits to the Company by moving to a single rate, with the reduction of admin costs dealing with the misband requests, and the benefit of having parcels go out on Day 1, rather than being left in the DU.

We talked through all elements of the claim (including rate protection, standardised pay date, etc.), again highlighting where these would benefit the company (as that is the only reason the Company would implement them), and we agreed again that the Committee would spend time with the Peak Planning, to give our (and your) insight into how to make Peak better (pay more).

We want ALL the GMB members to be included in the Pay Negotiations, and again asked for Lifestyle to be brought on board (this was a carry over from 2022 JNNF). We asked for all of our demands to be available for both SE+ and Lifestyle couriers who are GMB members; and asked the company to come back with some different options if they were not able to implement all our requirements for all Members.

The Company agreed to take these away and come back to us with a proposal on Wednesday 21st June, where we will discuss this further. This may be the point where we started, with requests declined, but I hope that after two disastrous Peaks, a lot of issues with down rounds over holiday seasons, and the effect of these on Clients (who are really not happy), the Company will see that maybe, just maybe, looking after your Couriers means that your service improves.

As always, we will keep you updated.

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Mark Lang, a fellow GMB courier, following an incident in late March.

At our recent national online meeting a minute’s silence was observed in his honour, and kind words were spoken on his behalf by a fellow GMB Rep.

We want to send our deepest condolences to his partner, family, friends and colleagues, past and present.

We hope that amidst the sadness, that they are able to reflect and draw on their memories of joy and happiness that Mark brought to their lives over the years.

He will be sadly missed by his Evri family and also his customers.

        May he rest in peace,

        Yours sincerely,

        JNCF Update

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

Please see the short update below following our recent JNCF meetings with the Company, while the more extensive minutes are still being agreed.

        Model Review

During Peak last year the Company surveyed a number of couriers, including attitudes regarding increased work opportunities, and they reported an appetite amongst couriers for more work.

On the back of these results, and as we flagged last year, the Company has now approached us regarding commencing talks on reviewing the current model.

As we will shortly be commencing a consultation with members on 2023 pay, we want to be as transparent as possible with members.

So in addition to asking for the survey results, we have asked the Company to write to us formally, confirming a genuine negotiation process and potential timelines for any review.

We need to confirm if any negotiations on a revised model would form part of the JNNF talks, or potentially sit alongside that, however our initial reaction is that negotiations on a revised model will take longer so may need to sit outside the JNNF process.

We will again update members once we have received a formal approach.

        Attendance

The Company have raised the issue of non-attendance with the National Committee.

As the issue partly relates to provisions in the Supplemental Agreement (specifically 7.5.3), we have suggested that as the Agreement needs revision, we can look to discuss any issues during that process.

        SE+ Contracts

The Company have asked the National Committee for their initial view on potentially opening up further SE+ contracts to couriers.

Our initial reaction was positive but we’re conscious that we would want clear details on any arrangements, timelines etc and that we would look to consult members on the issue.

Again we have asked the Company to write us outlining its thinking, including any qualifying criteria, after which we’ll look to commence a consultation with members.

As above we’ll circulate more extensive minutes when they’re agreed, but hopefully this short note is helpful.

        Yours in union,

GMB Evri NC Reps GMB National Officer

        Noticeboard Bulletin - 24-01-2023

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

        FTA – HSP UPDATE

To confirm that yesterday the Company responded to our failure to agree that was raised earlier in the year.

The Company took on board the points raised, but in particular the Committee’s explanation of how couriers feel let down by the claims system (i.e. 2 or more claims = lost HSP) and how long they felt it took to challenge them, with the Company acknowledging that some couriers did not receive a timely response in P9.

The following resolution was proposed to your National Committee:

        • The claims criteria would be disregarded for P10 HSP (due to be paid at the end of P11). i.e. we would not look at whether a courier had had any claims when determining whether a courier was due their HSP
        • The claims threshold would be temporarily increased in P11 and P12 to 5 or more claims (from the current 2 or more).

The Company want an opportunity to review the process properly and discuss with the National Committee a revised approach going forward to ensure that it is more robust and couriers have confidence in it.

The proposal was contingent on the National Committee accepting it, which following discussion, they are happy to do so particularly as the P10 HSP is being processed this week.

The Committee want to thank members for their patience and support.

Ideally we won’t need to pursue future FTA’s but we hope that members are satisfied with the outcome.

        Yours in union,

Evri National Committee GMB National Officer

        EVRI UPDATES

        Posted on:

        Dear Evri members,

Wishing you and yours a happy new year.

Please see below a short update on a number of issues that have been on the radar through Peak.

        HSP – Failure to Agree

Prior to Christmas, the National Committee sought to offset the impact of volume and the inclement weather on members’ HSP by asking the Company to guarantee/protect members' payments.

The Company initially rejected this, though it introduced its own guaranteed payments just before Christmas, and your National Committee subsequently raised a Failure to Agree.

Post-NY, a meeting was convened to hear the Failure to Agree, where the National Committee argued that the maintaining the same targets for a number of the HSP elements when volumes were so high, and weather impacting, was not reasonable. It was put to the Company that now it had information relating to performance and volume, that it should review the targets to account for these factors.

They have taken this away to review and are coming back to the National Committee shortly to pick up.

        Potential New Model

At the last JNCF the Company indicated that it wanted to open talks on a potential new model in the new year, post-Peak.

At the most recent meeting the Company has a proposed an initial meeting with the National Committee for mid-February.

Once we have an understanding of what is under discussion we will ensure that members are updated and consulted as we go.

        National Committee

There have been some adjustments to the National Committee in recent weeks – Ed Cross and Nathan Bell have both stepped off the Committee, in the latter case for a temporary period.

Emma Wallace has kindly agreed to step up as interim Chair and we are shortly going to appoint a Vice Chair.

We are also in the process of developing a GMB constiution to reflect the changes in GMB Regions through our regional changes last year, which will also require discussion with the Company.

This has been tentatively discussed (mainly by email so far) by the National Committee and GMB Officers, but nothing has been finalised to date.

Peter Truth – ICO Referal & GMB Investigation

A number of members contacted GMB regarding the receipt of an email from a Peter Truth, which was circulated to a number of recipients. Our investigation and submission to the ICO identified that the recipients were not just GMB members, making it difficult to confirm if we had been the source of any breach.

GMB also self-reported to the ICO and their response was that we had no case to answer and no further action would be taken.

This episode also raises the issue of social media forums.

        Social Media

We will shortly be conducting an audit of all the social media forums that relate to GMB in Evri as we want to identify what is operating out there, who runs them and are they authorised by GMB.

We then want to be in a position to advise members whether they are participating in an authorised forum or not, which may influence their decision to continue participating.

        Pay Preparations

In the coming weeks we will commence a consultation with members, surveying them regarding aspirations for pay in 2023.

        PRESS REPORT CORRECTION

        Posted on:

        Dear members,

A press report has been brought to our attention that quotes Evri stating that audits of the courier earnings to ensure they are above the “minimum wage” are “independently conducted by the GMB union”.

Unfortunately this statement is not quite accurate.

GMB does not carry out independent audits of courier earnings.

Our agreement provides that a joint audit is conducted, but in reality, the “normal process is GMB provide list of 100 or so couriers who we (Evri) then provide real time earnings data for”

We hope that this clarifies any concerns amongst courier members.

YOUR PAY, YOUR CONDITIONS, YOUR SAY, YOUR VOICE, YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD -- MAKE WORK BETTER

        Posted on:

        Dear Colleagues,

GMB Newsbrief No75/2022 - Consultation Survey on Pay Model and Pay & Bargaining 2022

YOUR PAY, YOUR CONDITIONS, YOUR SAY, YOUR VOICE, YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD -- MAKE WORK BETTER

2022 GMB Survey: Your GMB National Reps and are consulting members on two very important issue.

        1. Arising from the 2021 pay agreement there was a commitment that a new activity-based pay model would be negotiated.

        2. The anniversary date for Limb B workers Status (194)/ SE + GMB couriers regards your Pay and Conditions is June 2022.

YOUR VOICE: The exploitative GiG economy throws up all sorts of issues for our members. Members tell us that they are fed up with being treated and disrespected by the company.

There are some though who say the “union has negotiated” pay cuts. Be careful, some of these people often spread misinformation and fear around the network to help the company create divide and rule amongst couriers.

The genuine reasons that has happened to some courier’s earnings is due to the fact last year around the summer the shopping habits of people changed. They bought smaller but more frequent items. Despite couriers delivering more, in real terms for some couriers it became less in the pocket, due to the size of the packages.

Market fluctuations are issues that need to be factored into any future pay model and pay negotiations to protect earnings.

YOUR PAY MODEL: exploitation has been the name of the game for too long. The Hermes way was to pretend to do an “individual negotiation” by promoting individualism over collectivism. They created a dog-eat-dog attitude, of couriers working alongside each other doing the same work, yet being paid vastly different. It is time the “model” works for all couriers.

We are seeking members' views on the Pay Model.

YOUR PAY: We are also consulting you on your pay and other issues that affect your working life. GMB wants to #MakeWorkBetter for GMB Members.

LIFESTYLE COVER COURIERS: GMB Union has a formal collective agreement with Hermes, which includes representation for all couriers who provide services for Hermes. The agreement with the company currently only allows GMB Union to negotiate on pay for those couriers who are Limb B Workers Status 194/ SE+ couriers. We have listened to Lifestyle Cover couriers who have said they should not be excluded. We are seeking members' views via the consultation survey. Tell us what you think!

CAMPAIGNING TO MAKE WORK BETTER: The company will be introducing a number of changes, such as how rounds are devised and are viable, pay dates, bandings, technology, reduction in couriers' numbers. These are significant challenges, and all couriers will be faced with choices to make, but it is how we face these challenges together and in a united manner that will ensure we are all successful for the courier.

Make sure your Voice is heard, your voice is important!!

The consultation commences on the 7th of February and will close on the 28th of February at 10am. Check your email and your Spam box to ensure you have received the electronic survey link.

        With our best wishes

Mick and your GMB National/Regional Reps

        Dear Colleagues,

GMB Newsbrief No74/2022 - March Insurance Renewal

We have been informed of the March Insurance renewal and the price increase that is being sought on this policy. This is the company notice that will be sent to couriers on this matter,

        Courier insurance renewal

Each year we are required to renew the scheme that we arrange for couriers. In order to ensure that you have access to the best possible product and deal, we engage an insurance broker called Marsh to do this on our behalf.

As you may know, we have managed to keep the premium at £1.00 per day for the past 2 years.

Unfortunately this year, despite best efforts, it has not been possible to maintain this.

This means that as of 1 March 2022, for those couriers who are opted in to the insurance, the premium will increase from £1.00 per day to £1.15 per day for each day you provide services on.

As part of the renewal process, Marsh have also asked me to reiterate the importance of all opted in couriers accurately reporting to Marsh their driving history, as required by Marsh (and as it would be with any vehicle insurance).

Over the course of the next couple of months, Marsh will also be contacting those couriers who it has written to previously and who have not responded. If you are contacted then please ensure that you respond to that communication, so that we can ensure that you have the correct insurance arrangements in place.

        Thank you for your cooperation

        GMB Newsbrief No73/ 2022

        Dear Member,

        RE; Change of Pay Date

Last Autumn 2021 following many complaints from members regards constant incorrect pay we challenged the company strongly over the constant battles of incorrect invoices and for members missing payments to be rectified. As a result we had no alternative but to threaten action against the company unless the situation changed and changed quickly.

Once again, this month, we have been given a few examples of incorrect invoices, so once again we will be putting together a spreadsheet of members and we will get you paid what you have rightly earnt.

The company since our meetings with them over incorrect pay have discussed with us a solution to the problem and to pay invoices correctly first time, every time. The company claim they do not currently run any invoice checks prior to invoice creation and issue to couriers. In order for the company to be able to check and verify your invoices, they will need to change the date of invoice creation and the date of pay to your bank. As a result and to implement this change quickly the next invoice for P12 payments will be issued on Thursday 3rd March NOT Monday 28th February. Your payment to bank will change to Friday 11th March NOT Tuesday 8th March.

If this solution works this is a positive step in issuing and paying invoices correctly. Our members will not then have to spend weeks of work chasing incorrect payments.

We appreciate that this is a significant change to the timescale when you are currently paid. We also understand that some may find that the extra days wait causes a financial hardship. As such, we have negotiated with the company to provide support for GMB MEMBERS ONLY. If you feel you will need support, can you please contact your GMB regional national rep who will give you further details (see contact below).

We all understand the difficulty you all have had in being paid properly and then having to chase missing and incorrect payments. The company have made it clear the only way they can issue correct invoices is by having this extra time to check invoices prior to issue.

Your GMB regional national reps have discussed and agree that these minor changes will be a positive step forward and will reduce the work you have to do in chasing your money.

If you have any difficulties or other issues, please contact your contact your GMB regional national Rep for your region.

        GMB Newsbrief No72/ 2022

        Dear Member,

        RE: Free, Unpaid/ Underpaid Sort

We are writing to GMB members who provide services to Hermes and who may provide services to a Delivery Unit Controller at their Delivery Unit (sub) for sortation purposes, prior to delivering parcels. If you do undertake this activity Hermes have made it clear that you should be paid correctly by your Delivery Unit Controller (DUC).

We are still receiving complaints where people are being coerced to work for free, or they are promised they will get their parcels early as a result of free sort services. This is not "volunteering" this is a coercion to work for free, and would be ruled as illegal, and is also against Hermes own policies.

There is another issue too, it is not about paid work, cash in hand etc, there should be a contract that goes with this work too. This is the second largest parcel business in the UK. You do not see Royal Mail and other companies act in this manner. GMB have been asked to look into this matter, and our advice is that anyone doing sortation services should be paid correctly and they should have a proper contract to undertake this work. In the vast majority of cases we view that the sortation services should be classed as "employed" work, and that there may indeed be claims that are owed for loss of pay, failure to pay NMW, paid holidays, pensions, sick pay etc. Again this is all subject to legal advice and the information that is provided by the individual member.

We have written out on this matter before to members and we have tried to give people the time within Hermes to put this situation right. Unfortunately we are still getting members coming forward to us stating that they are being forced to work for free (otherwise lose their parcel pick up time slots), in some cases we have found that issues have been deliberately created with a courier who refused to work for free, with the aim of getting their work removed. We also know that some Hermes managers have knowledge of these matters taking place.

The current NMW rates outline the minimum wage levels you should be paid for undertaking sortation services at DU’s on behalf of the DUC.

        23 and over 21 to 22 18 to 20

        April 2021 (current rate) £8.91 £8.36 £6.56

        April 2022 £9.50 £9.18 £6.83

Even if some do see "free sort" as an opportunity to get your round out early it unfairly punishes others who rely on the income from sortation to pay their bills and put food on the table.

Please Note; If you are a victim of free sort and are not being paid correctly/ employed then please contact your GMB Regional Organiser on the telephone number on your GMB membership card, and ask for legal advice from your GMB Region.

Important; Please send your proof of your details and confirm how you are being paid etc. Please also let others know who may be in a similar situation at your DU. They too can confidentially contact GMB.

        GMB Newsbrief No71/ 2021 December

        Dear Colleagues,

        Heavy & Large Pay

Your GMB National Reps raised with the company that it appears that the uplift awarded with the 2021 pay rise was not applied to all couriers Heavy and Large bands. This is now being rectified. The company replied to your GMB National Reps on the issue as follows.

"Whilst we appreciate it's not ideal for either ourselves or your members, the only way we can pay the uplift currently is in arrears. Whilst heavy and heavy/large are bands within the PRG, the rate card (which applies to all our couriers) for those bands is set to the £1 min. Our system won't allow us to just uplift the rate cards for heavy and heavy/large for those couriers that have the benefit of the increase in standard rates that we agreed."

Of course, we are currently looking at how we can ensure courier pay is more accurate and as part of the longer term vision for that, it could be that we look to include something which allows us to segment our couriers and if this means that we can stop paying the uplift in arrears and pay “in month” instead then we will look to do this."

        Covid Instructions

Last week the company sent out revised instructions to protect couriers working inside/ outside a delivery unit with the mandatory wearing of face masks. The company did not share the instructions before sending to couriers and there was an inaccuracy. That inaccuracy has been re written with respect to wearing face coverings whilst on delivery. The new instruction will state it is advisory on delivery, not mandatory.

        Dear Colleagues,

        Re: Communications

We have sent out the message previously, but it appears that some colleagues may have misunderstood this message or may not have read it correctly. Please do read this and keep safe for future notice.

Some members think that by posting a message on a Facebook or WhatsApp groups is an acceptable way to contact your GMB union representative or your GMB Union regional full-time officer if members require assistance, advice etc. This is not the correct way to contact GMB Union. We do not trawl through social media on the off chance that a member is trying to contact GMB, and we will not do so. There are enough channels of communication for members to seek GMB assistance. Below should help clarify the situation for members,

Your GMB Membership Card: On your GMB membership card there is a contact number. This is the Official way to contact GMB during office hours. It is important if you require advice, assistance and representation you contact that number. Do not leave messages on WhatsApp groups, or Facebook and other social media platforms. We do not monitor social media.

Your GMB National Reps: Your GMB national reps are your first point of contact. They are working couriers just like you and may sometimes take a day or so to get back to you. You should have their contact details, and you must go to your correct GMB rep for your region first.

GMB Noticeboard: We have a dedicated page on our website for Hermes members and couriers. You can access all GMB News briefs for Hermes Couriers. Also, the national agreements we have with the company are posted on the site, and the vast amount of GMB services and products that come with being a GMB member are also on display in GMB extra. Plus, there is the GMB Credit Union, want to know more what GMB extra and what the GMB Credit Union does - go to Hermes Noticeboard | GMB

Facebook: We also have a private Facebook page for GMB members, if you wish to join go to (1) GMB Union - Hermes Couriers | Facebook. We will not be using other Hermes Facebook sites as they are not secure, and we know that posts are screenshotted and then they have been sent to the company managers. When applying to join this group, you must use your correct name and details, made up names will automatically exclude you.

GMB Local Contacts: Along with your GMB National Reps and your Full Time Team of GMB Regional Organisers we are always wanting people to come forward and to be GMB Local Contacts. These are colleagues who pass information on to members at their DU's or pass information onto their GMB National Rep for their region, or their GMB Full Time Officer. Why not put your name forward to be a GMB Local Contact? Get in touch.

GMB Yorkshire Region Rep: We have a new rep that has come forward for Yorkshire region members, when his contact details are available, we will let members know.

Best wishes from your GMB National Team of Reps

        Best wishes

        Mick Rix

        GMB National Officer

        Dear Colleagues,

GMB held an urgent SJNCF meeting with Hermes senior management 29/11/2021 due to a number of issues that have caused concerns. There are three areas of major concern that have existed for some time.

1.PAY - Heavy and large banding on couriers PRG appears has not been applied. The company stated it should have been applied to ALL rates. The Company is trying to find out why it has not happened. There are issues also where the correct uplift has not been applied. There are many things that happen each month with couriers pay. There are issues with disappearing manifests, where couriers have not been paid for items delivered. We have made it clear it is wrong what is taking place is wrong, and solutions need to be put in place urgently. The directors have said these issues need to stop and solutions need to be found.

Hermes have apologised and accepted that they keep putting sticking plasters on solutions which clearly are not working, the company accept that change needs to take place and that couriers pay should be correct. Hermes have committed to approaching your GMB National Reps shortly with some firm proposals on permanent solutions to the problems with couriers pay.

Hermes have created a special email address for GMB MEMBERS ONLY so that members can raise wrong payments on issues regarding the pay deal. The email must not be given to anyone else, especially a non GMB member. You will be expected to provide your GMB membership number for verification checks. We will not and neither will the company be progressing any claims for Non GMB members. You should by now know who your GMB Regional Rep is to seek assistance, please contact them as they have the email address. The company have guaranteed they will ensure that any back pay owed will be paid by Xmas.

2.THE APP - Your GMB National Reps demanded that the company once and for all sort out the issues with the App. It has made the company a laughingstock amongst couriers and within the industry. Couriers tell us they don't want rid of the App, they just want it to work. Your GMB reps also raised the issue, again, on the amount of unpaid free work that is being undertaken because of the App faults. We asked the question, what are the company going to do to compensate our members for the free work they are undertaking.

Despite GMB tabling twice with Hermes a request for an offer to compensate couriers for free work because of App problems, Hermes have not yet confirmed/rejected an offer to compensate GMB couriers for the unpaid free work they have undertaken. Hermes have said they will come back to GMB shortly on this matter. GMB is also sourcing professional advice.

3.ROUND BALANCING - Out of 300 rounds which have been rebalanced, 214 where anomalies have been received, those rounds have been altered. In total 5,300 rounds were re-balanced. When most cases were raised with Hermes, they did alter the rounds in most cases. We have also raised that some CDM's did not speak with couriers prior to round rebalancing, we have had some couriers work slashed and earnings altered. It was also made clear to the company that in some cases the planners have made mistakes and rather than encourage greater contact with the couriers and involve the courier from the beginning of such proposals, some of the planners buried their heads in the sand.

In the majority of cases, there is evidence that couriers were spoken to properly by CDM's and in fact couriers asked for the other rounds and were given them. We know though that in some cases the issue has not worked well for couriers. The effects of lockdown and the major volume that was taking place, and then with peak, it did mean that rounds were unbalanced. In fact, it is recognised by the company that there are too many rounds. We will be meeting with the company again early in the new year to discuss this matter further, and review with Hermes on what our members experiences were. We know that in some cases, planners made unworkable plans, and created unsustainable work for couriers. These are all the issues of feedback that your GMB Reps need so that we can ensure in future problems are minimised.

        GMB Newsbrief No67/ 2021

        Dear Colleagues,

Thank you to all members who took part in the various consultations exercises we organised so that we could listen to your views on the 2021 pay and conditions offer from Hermes for those couriers who are Worker Status/ SE+. Thank you to all those members who voted too.

We organised lots of zoom meetings in the regions, and hundreds of members were seen face to face on lots of Delivery Unit visits. The Streamyard Broadcasts also were a good way of reaching out to members. We really appreciated the views of our members, whether they were for or against the offer from Hermes, it was great to see you. Also, to a lot of new members that have joined. Welcome to the GMB Family.

What was also very clear, (despite what a minority were saying on certain social media sites) that the vast majority of GMB members did not share these individuals' views, in fact many members expressed concerns regards certain individuals' views that were expressed online. Many said they felt that some of these individuals were damaging the image and reputation of couriers. Let's hope that collectivism and friendship amongst couriers, can be the best solution to a united couriers workforce.

We want to assure members that we are looking at new digital solutions where our GMB members will again be able to discuss with each other, and one which will be a safe place for members.

Again thank you to everyone who voted. The Ballot Results are as follows:

        Q. Are you in favour of accepting Hermes final pay and conditions offer for 2021?

        -Those Voting YES 77 %

        -Those Voting NO 23%

        Q. If you voted to reject the Hermes final pay and conditions offer for 2021, are you, in favour of taking ALL OUT industrial action instead?

-Those Voting YES In Favour 27%

-Those Voting NO Not in Favour 73 %

It is very clear that the results to accept Hermes 2021 offer was decided democratically by a massive majority of GMB members who voted. This reflected the views of 76% of GMB DU Local Contacts who also recommended acceptance of Hermes Offer.

We want to thank members for your participation, and for making your voice heard.

        With our Best Wishes

        Mick Rix

Fuel rate and information for an investigation.

        Fuel Rate

We promised an update on the fuel rate and the revised increase is a rise from 25 pence to 26.2 pence.

I recognise that fuel prices are likely to increase as a result of the conflict that is now unfolding and that we will need to seek a swift revaluation of the fuel rate.

        Misbanded Postables & SOS Disputes

Please can you provide us with details of any of misbanded parcels or SH Disputes with proper evidence of upgrade rejections using the form your regional reps have or you have been distributed.

We will NOT accept any other version as we must have a clear path on casework for the future and to keep a chronical and timeline on casework.

        Annual Diary

Please look out for an annual diary that will be provided to appraise members of negotiations, meetings and events I hope to have this with you within a few days.

        Physical or Verbal assaults

I just wanted to remind you that if you are the victim of a physical assault including the pet of a recipient of a parcel we have a legal service that you can use to take action.

Also take care to report any such assault to the police and obtain a crime number.

In the case of verbal assault please report this to the police and your representative where appropriate these individuals and their homes must be removed from rounds.

        Round Rebalancing and Packet racket.

        07/04/2022

        Hi all,

We just wanted to take the time to update you on where the National Committee are with various plans on how we move forward and benefit us all.

        PAY MODEL

Thank you to all those who completed the survey. We have read every single response and pulled together all your ideas and suggestions for a new pay model. We want to be transparent in what we have done and clear on the way forward.

We have excluded rate increases or pay increases from the pay model as these fall under the pay claim. All your comments with regards rates will be considered for the pay claim. No comments will be dismissed or ignored. The pay model is about the terms on which we are paid not what we are paid. What we are paid, i.e., rates, come under the pay claim.

The National Committee have met and discussed every one of your comments. We have now included all the pay model suggestions into our strategy. We will not be releasing any further information as we do not want this information presented at large before we receive the Company’s suggested pay model. You can be assured that we will be presenting everything from both the Company and the GMB to our members once we have received the Company’s suggested pay model. We hope you understand that it is vital that we keep our information protected so as not to put ourselves at a disadvantage.

        MISBANDS

As we are all aware, the issue of misbanding continues, and as we have seen over the last few years, it is going to be a very difficult one to resolve.

As you will be aware, the company are now auditing more and more items, as they pass through the network. There are 120 devices across the network that measure dims and weight.

We are aware that there are still issues to deal with regarding misbanded items. One of the issues that has been highlighted recently is the amount of rejected upgrades that are taking place at the end of each period. We are challenging the company very strongly on these rejections. We are asking for their audit data. We would like to offer you the following advice which strengthens our claim on the rejections:

1 - Ignore any weights printed on labels

2 - Before submitting a claim please check the banding on COL, not your device.

3 - To strengthen a claim, make sure you have a photograph of the item on scales, showing the barcode of the item, and the weight

4 - Please copy and paste the barcode - many rejections are the result of incorrect manual input

We want all our members upgrading, and in order to support you in this, if following the above advice, upgrades are rejected at the end of this period 2, then please send them to Ed & Suzie who will then challenge the company on these rejections on your behalf. We are working as hard as we can to put money back in our members' pockets, and at the moment this is one of the best ways to do this with regards mis banded payments.

We will continue to update you on the pay model and any negotiations that take place as and when they start, but if you have any questions with regards anything in this email, please do not hesitate to contact your Regional Representative as listed below.

        Dear Member

Please find below an update on matters including today's revised fuel offer.

        Revised fuel offer

You will have received a revised fuel offer and this is a significant increase from the original and subsequent offer from Evri. This also includes SE+ couriers & Lifestyle. As you will be aware, we were asked to approach Evri for lifestyle and they have agreed to include both contracts. Where couriers feel the offer does not encompass their mileage, GMB members ONLY will be able to challenge the offer made.

If you wish to challenge the daily rate you have been assigned based on mileage, please can you email in, with proof of stem/round mileage, to your regional representative listed below. In the title you should type “Fuel Assistance Challenge” in the Subject please include your GMB membership number so this can be verified – The challenge is only available to GMB members. New joiners who were pre-existing couriers will not be able to take advantage of the F.A.C.

Evri will aim to turn these requests around within 3-5 working days.

        Casework, Website and Pay model

Where you have work issues, you will need to complete a casework form. Your representative has been provided with these forms. You will need to complete one of these forms so that cases can be tracked by representatives and regional officers. Please contact your representative for a form.

We hope to have a revamped version of the GMB website complete shortly and the calendar will be available for all to see the year ahead.

It has been agreed that the most pragmatic way forward in terms of the pay model will be to see the solution offered by Evri and then sharing this and the proposals we are making. It is important that this information is kept confidential until we see Evri’s offer otherwise we could find our suggestions are countered even before we get off the ground, this should be with us shortly.

        Elections

At this stage, it is proposed that elections for representatives will take place in early September and will be based on GMB CEC guidelines. There will be some substantive changes as GMB move to seven regions but increase regional representations to match the increased size of service area. The committee once elected will select the Chair and Vice Chair.

        Dear member,

I have written to Hermes requesting an urgent re-evaluation of fuel rates as it is clear the war in Ukraine is creating further increases which I suspect will increase.

Please note the following two meetings that are only available via pre-registration on Zoom for members only on Thursday evening 10th of March at 20.00 (8.00 PM) and next Tuesday 15th March at 18.30 (6.30 PM).

Thursday’s meeting is an update that will clarify uncertainty in relation to changes in Hermes as well as some updates on other matters.

Next Tuesday’s meeting is devoted to round balance and packet racket as promised two weeks ago – I had intended to hold this meeting this week but due to the update have delayed it.

We will give a brief update next week in relation to JNCF meetings.

I did promise greater transparency, and this will be the first steps in that direction.

Please see that links for each individual meeting.

We will not discuss any individual rate and round matters in meetings. These must be dealt with by your reps using the forms that have been provided to them.

These forms will be sent on to divisional mangers to cascade them via your rep or Union organiser.

If you have payment issues, these must be forwarded to your rep or regional organiser to forward on to Suzy, they must not be forwarded to Suzy directly as we will not be able to track casework.

Please make use of your regional reps rather than deluge Ed and Suzy for casework.

I cannot be clear enough on this, Ed and Suzy now have instructions to direct this work back to you to pass on via your regional representatives.

It is your regional reps who bring unresolved casework to RCDFs, and this methodology is the only one that is appropriate, respectful of the roles and acceptable.

Register in advance for these meetings:

        Dear Colleague

GMB have become aware that some unofficial surveys may be sent to members from individuals who are not GMB officials.

Whilst we understand that colleagues will want to communicate amongst themselves, we are concerned that some of these surveys may include requests for your personal data. We need to make you aware that IT IS NOT GMB that is requesting this information and as such we need to caution you that should you provide your personal information the GMB will not be responsible for the storing of that data and any subsequent use of this.

We strongly recommend that you only share your data, if you choose, on any requests sent from a GMB mail account, as this will be held in line with GDPR. If you ever have any doubts over the validity of a request for your personal information relating to the GMB you can contact myself direct and I will be able to confirm whether or not this is a request from the Union.

Thanks again for being a member of GMB, if you would like to get more involved with GMB please feel free to contact any of your representatives below.

        Dear colleague,

It has come to our attention that there are HSP payments that have not been paid this period (1).

Many of these are due to two or more claims. Members have contacted courier admin but have been refused details of the claims.

Only GMB members have a mechanism of appealing these withheld payments. This is via ourselves and instructions are below.

Please check your invoice and if you are missing both your ETA and SOS it is very likely you have lost these due to claims. You can contact courier admin to confirm this.

To appeal this decision please send the following details to either Ed or Suzie, email addresses below:

GMB@Evri/News Brief No 84/2022 - GMB 2022 PAY CLAIM AND DELIVERY UNIT CONTACTS

        Posted on:

        Dear Colleague

We are submitting our 2022 pay claim to Evri.

As previously advised certain aspects of the claim will be for members only and will not be available for non-members.

I wanted to explain why GMB are not adding a revised model to the process. When a model was discussed last year, the company’s prospects were more buoyant, and a particular view was taken that a new model would be practical. However, market conditions have been more challenging following an easing of restrictions in relation to the pandemic. As a result, this has been paused.

This does not mean that GMB representatives will not be keen to work towards a new model and regardless of committee this will be an important cornerstone of the work carried out.

        The Pay and Conditions Claim

Pay and Condition claim headlines are as follows:

1 - GMB are seeking a PRG increase of 7.8% for all those couriers who are GMB Members with Worker Status/SE+ couriers

2 - GMB are seeking firm protections in writing for the rates to all GMB members who are Worker Status/SE+ Couriers

3 - GMB are seeking a change to the expenses for Worker Status/SE+ Couriers

4 - GMB are seeking for all SE+ couriers to receive holiday accrual at the start of the holiday year in the same way that those on Worker Contract do, and holidays to be on a continuous rolling accrual. In addition, the GMB are seeking the removal of the 90-day advance booking limitation. The GMB are also seeking a retention bonus for all Worker Status/SE+ Couriers. An extra day’s holiday on each of the following anniversaries - 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years

5 - GMB are seeking an update to the Supplemental Agreement to keep the baseline of earnings above NLW.

6 - In light of the GMB Supreme Court ruling regards Uber, it has been confirmed that those who work via an App should be paid from when they sign into the App. We are seeking a discussion on this as to when Worker Status and SE+ Couriers would be signed into the App and therefore paid.

A rectification of the national agreement in view of the clear and unambiguous recent Supreme Court judgment on working time for Worker Status/SE+ couriers is now required.

        7. - GMB are seeking to negotiate on pay for Lifestyle Couriers, and to represent them to National Level.

        8. -GMB wish the agreement paragraph 7.5 iii to be updated to include provision for those that may have to undertake Jury, Military and TA service and to further enshrine provision for Grand Parental and Carer Leave.

        9. GMB are seeking confirmation that Courier protection policy with benefits similar to those offered to private hire drivers to GMB members who are Worker Status/SE+ Couriers will be agreed no later than November, this will give Evri a reasonable length of time to procure a contract.

        Delivery Unit Contacts

A few weeks ago, I wrote to contacts who had shown an interest in representing delivery units previously and received a limited number of responses. As a result, I am now seeking further applicants to help assist at delivery unit level.

Ultimately, we are hoping you may be able to advise those within your delivery unit of any issues that your region or representative inform you of, and to assist those in your unit when issues arise by helping the member or progressing the issue on to your regional representative on the member’s behalf. We also hope you will be able to assist GMB when we ballot our members on the 2022 pay offer.

I have delayed the Health and Safety training to make sure we facilitate this, and to get as many contacts as possible. However, I would like to embark soon on instruction via an online course.

Please use the link to apply to become a GMB contact: https://forms.office.com/r/x8L6G10rKF

        Posted on:

        Dear colleagues,

There are several processes currently being undertaken. We need you to read below and if you think you need to be involved in any of the processes, you need to send the following information

        Full name

        Courier number

        HSP APPEALS

If you have had your HSP payment withheld due to two or more claims, you can appeal this decision by sending the above information to Ed or Suzie. You will also need your GMB number for this appeal.

        STAR BONUS PERSONALISATION

The company, since their rebranding, has ceased the use of avatars across the business. Therefore, avatars will no longer be considered for the personalisation process to be paid the star bonus. However, the GMB have made representation to the company that couriers should not be forced to use a photo. If you do not wish to use a photo, then your profile will be left blank (avatars are not an option). In order for your profile to be left blank, and to remove the need to upload a photograph, you need to send your full name and courier number to Ed or Suzie. There is no need for a GMB number.

        Posted on:

        Dear colleagues,

As promised, we intend to keep you fully abreast of what is happening with your pay and conditions claim. Your National Negotiating Team began negotiations at the JNNF on Wednesday 15th June 2022.

You have all seen the pay claim that was submitted to the company. The company’s counter offer is overviewed below:

1 – a one off payment of £500 for GMB members only

2 – to retain the fuel supplement until diesel drops to £1.70 per litre

        3 – mandatory uniform

4 – a change to SOS criteria to include collections at 96% and deliveries to rise to 98%

5 – the company also want to agree a future working model whereby couriers can opt in to a minimum volume of 120 per day and a commitment to work 5 days including a Saturday or Sunday.

Those who opt in will receive an additional 50p HSP

Those who do not opt in would have a reduced HSP of £3 per day

Other than substituting a one-off payment for the percentage increase, the company have not offered a deal on any of the other points contained in your pay claim.

Your National Negotiating Team have made it quite clear there are certain elements that are a deal breaker. These include the rate protection, and the time on task. The company have now gone away to give further consideration to these elements.

We will be holding a zoom webinar on Tuesday 21st June 2022 at 6.30pm (18.30). A link is below.

Jayson Forrow & Nathan Bell will be leading this event.

Questions can be posted in the chat, but we would request the chat is kept clear to try to see the questions and to answer them as soon as they come up.

        JNNF 2022

Heads of Agreement between Hermes Parcelnet Ltd t/a Evri and GMB

Evri and the GMB agree that the below is subject to confirmation by the Evri Board and acceptance by majority by the GMB via a GMB member consultation exercise (together referred to below as “Confirmation”).

Subject to Confirmation, the parties have agreed in principle the following outcome of the JNNF 2022:

        1. For SE+ and Worker couriers who were GMB members as at 14 June 2022 and who remain both an SE+/Worker courier and a GMB member until the last payment referred to below is made:

        a) An increase in earnings of £800 in total by way of the following payments, which will be paid at the same time as parcel earnings for the relevant period:

        i. P6: £180

        ii. P7: £60

        iii. P8: £60

        iv. P9: £60

        v. P10: £60

        vi. P11: £60

        vii. P12: £100

        viii. P1: £100

        ix. P2: £60

        x. P3: £60

For the avoidance of doubt to be eligible for the above payments, a courier must be both an SE+/Worker courier and a GMB member as at the last day of each pay period referred to above. If they are not then they will not be entitled to the payment for that period or any further payments.

By way of example only: if a courier is an SE+ courier and a GMB member as at 14 June 2022 but then ceases to be a GMB member in the middle of P7, they would only be entitled to the P6 payment. They would not be entitled to any further payments.

        1. For:
          1. all SE+ and Worker couriers who were GMB members as at 14 June 2022 and who remain both an SE+/Worker courier and a GMB member up until JNNF 2023; and
          2. all SE+ couriers who earned less than £40,000 in the previous rolling 12 months

An agreement that Evri will not initiate any rate negotiations with the aim of reducing PRG as this group of couriers on or before the next JNNF, unless the couriers round changes (in which case Evri will be entitled to agree a revised rate with the courier based on that changed round unless the change arises from Evri's round rebalancing

        1. For all SE+/Worker couriers:

          1. Evri will continue the current supplementary fuel payments until such time as the cost of diesel according to the gov.uk fuel price index falls below £1.70 per litre for 3 consecutive weeks, at which point the supplementary fuel payments will cease. For the avoidance of doubt the payments will then recommence if the index goes above £1.70 per litre for 3 consecutive weeks.
          1. Evri will increase its minimum modelled earnings commitment (as referred to at 2B.2 of the Supplemental Agreement) to £10.00 (ten) per hour for the periods P6 to P1 inclusive.
          1. Evri will:

        i. Allow couriers to carryover up to 7 days from holiday year 2022 to holiday year 2023, such carried over holidays to be booked and taken by the end of P4 2023; and

ii. For the start of holiday year 2024, implement a system within the holiday booking portal which allows couriers to book and be paid for up to 7 days holiday from the start of the holiday year, providing that those couriers have provided service for at least 2 years as an SE+ courier by the start of holiday year 2024.

For the avoidance of doubt, in relation to cii, the 7 days referred to in that paragraph will be included in the courier’s overall holiday entitlement, they will not be in addition to what the courier would otherwise have accrued during holiday year 2024. Further for the avoidance of doubt, if a courier should cease providing services to Evri (for whatever reason) and at the point of cessation their holiday balance is below 0, the courier shall then owe the value of those overpaid holidays to Evri and Evri shall be entitled to recover that money from any monies payable to the courier in the future.

          1. The wording of the agreement between Evri and the GMB relating to SE+ couriers not providing services due to exceptional circumstances will be amended to specifically include jury service, military service and Territorial Army call up as exceptional circumstances, providing that the courier is able to provide proof of such circumstances.
          1. In order to improve the customer experience and to ensure that couriers continue to maximise their Star Rating, a mandatory requirement that couriers wear Evri branded clothing whilst sorting, delivering and collecting parcels on behalf of Evri. The exact requirement will be determined by Evri and the timeline for implementation will be discussed with the GMB.

          1. In order to ensure that couriers continue to meet customer expectations in terms of both deliveries and collections, the following changes will be made to the Speed of Service (‘SoS’) incentive:

        i. For deliveries the courier to customer measure will change to 98% with effect from the start of P6; and

ii. A collections measure will be introduced (timeline to be discussed with the GMB but it will not be before the start of P7) to the current SoS criteria, whereby a courier must collect or attempt to collect at least 96% of manifested collections over the course of a pay period in order to be eligible for SoS.

For the avoidance of doubt, unless stated above, all other SoS criteria will remain the same.

        GMB@Evri/News Brief No 93/2022 - GMB 2022 Pay Claim/JNNF 2022

        Posted on:

        Dear colleagues

Your GMB Union is consulting GMB members who are SE+ and Worker Status Couriers on the final offer received from Evri following the conclusion of intense negotiations.

We wanted, for the first time ever, to have a pay claim that had no financial impact, or cost to our members. Also, we wanted to focus our negotiations and bring the benefits of the pay offer to YOU, our loyal members.

GMB have secured financial benefits primarily for GMB members.

Following our consultation exercise, and listening to you, the number one priority was protecting your rates. GMB has secured this for ALL our members irrespective of earnings. There will be NO earnings cap on having your rates protected for our GMB members.

Your National Negotiating Team have also secured an £800 payment for GMB members only. The Heads of Agreement details how this financial payment will be paid.

These two major benefits were only achieved due to the collective bargaining power, strength and solidarity shown by GMB Couriers.

        OTHER PAY & CONDITIONS HEADLINES

There are other improvements that are being made to your conditions, and the agreement covers future improvements for 2023. These are:

The fuel assistance payment will now be formalised and become part of our SE+ Agreement. This protects this payment for the future.

To support and increase the freedom of choice for when our SE+ members can take holiday, we have secured for this year only, a temporary solution, which is an increase in the carryover into 2023/2024 holiday period, and also an extension in the timeframe for when these days must be used. Our SE+ members will be able to carryover 7 days, and these will not have to be used until end of P4 (June) 2023. These will allow our SE+ members to take holiday from the start of the new holiday period in 2023.

A further improvement on our SE+ members’ holidays will begin at the start of the holiday year 2024. Following the temporary solution above, a permanent improvement will begin as part of the SE+ Agreement. Our SE+ members will have 7 days accrual available, immediately at the start of the new 2024 holiday year.

The exceptional circumstances in the SE+ Agreement (7.5iii) will be further updated to include Jury Service, Military Service and Territorial Army call up.

Time on Task. We have an agreement with the company that system changes will be made by P2 2023 to include Time on Task as part of the pay model. This will ensure that going forward, we will be paid for all the work we undertake. Until P2, a temporary increase to the modelled earnings commitment will be introduced.

The company require that couriers wear the Evri branded uniform. As we wanted this pay claim to have no cost to our members, the uniform will be provided free of charge.

The company also wish to increase the criteria for payment of the SOS bonus. The change ONLY applies to ‘courier to customer.’ As we deliver, or attempt all items on day of receipt, there is no additional detriment to our members.

Please refer to the Heads of Agreement for more details. This can be read in conjunction with ballot paper being sent out electronically to all GMB members on Friday, 5th August 2022.

Please keep an eye on your emails for further updates and ballot information.

GMB@Evri/News Brief No 95/2022 - IMPORTANT IMFORMATION REGARDING THE 2022 PAY DEAL

        Posted on:

        Dear Colleague,

Further to recent updates, as you know the Evri pay deal was accepted with 70% of members voting for the deal. Since then, and as per the stipulations of the deal, the courier numbers of those who voted have been shared with the company and the additional payments triggered. However, it seems that there have been some members who have missed out on this, either because of some issues with voting or because they were away during the ballot.

As a result of this, we have reached an agreement with the company whereby any of you who have not received the payment, can still do so if, and only if, you complete this form. Click the link below:

        https://forms.office.com/r/4UpnGXhxfN

We want to be every clear, you MUST complete the form to receive the benefits of the pay deal. You are not obliged to complete the form if you do not wish to do so, but you will not then receive the benefits of the pay deal. The reason for this is that it gives the GMB permission to pass your detail to the company. Only those who we notify to the company can be paid.

As this agreement is outside of the normal pay process, it is imperative that you return this form by 12.00 noon on Tuesday, 6th September. Once we have the full list, this will be passed to the company and the necessary arrangements made. Once we have a clear idea as to when the payments will be made, we will confirm this individually with you all.

THIS IS THE FINAL OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS THE PAY OFFER

        Yours sincerely
