GMB Trade Union - Barnsley Hospital threatens 200 with fire and rehire

Almost 200 workers at Barnsley Hospital are ready to take action after bosses threatened them with fire and rehire.

Barnsley Hospital NHS Trust wants to hit nurses, radiographers and front line care staff with worse contracts - removing all paid breaks and imposing longer unpaid breaks which will see staff working extra and longer shifts for no more pay.

Anyone who doesn’t sign up to the new deal will be sacked.

Earlier this year the trust imposed the worse terms on more than 1,000 workers but backed off when more 400 refused to sign.

But now bosses appear to be taking advantage of the Government’s delay in implementing new restrictions on fire and rehire practices by sneaking the worse terms through.

Rachel Dix, GMB Organiser, said:

“Workers are absolutely astounded by the brass neck of trust bosses.

“After backing off from those who refused to comply with the changes, it now looks like they’re trying to sneak the changes through before the law changes to stop them.

“Barnsley Hospital workers are rightly furious and GMB is looking at legal, industrial and political interventions to protect members pay, terms and conditions.”
