GMB Union has described the Chancellor's 'buy British' plan as 'incredible news for UK shipyards'.
Rachel Reeves will today announce plans to change the law so sectors such as steel and shipbuilding will be classed as critical national infrastructure and can favour British companies.
Gary Smith, GMB General Secretary, said:
“This is incredible news for the UK’s proud shipbuilding sector.
“For generations, our fantastic yards have kept the country safe; from the ships that beat the Armada to those that sunk the Bismarck.
“This policy will reinvigorate the UK’s shipyards- and the communities built around them.”
