GMB Trade Union - Cumbria packaging firm faces strike action

More than 200 workers to vote on industrial action

Workers at a Cumbria packaging firm at set to vote on strike action over a real terms pay cut.

More than 200 GMB members at Innovia, in Wigton, which makes surface engineered films for label packaging and security applications across the globe, will now vote in an industrial action ballot.]

Dates of the vote will be announced in the coming days.

Workers have overwhelmingly rejected two pay offers, both of which were real terms pay cuts and the second of which disproportionally increased the wages of higher earners at the company.

Michael Hall, GMB Organiser, said:

“Innovia is flying – the Wigton site has enjoyed record investment and the company has made £25 million in the past two years alone.

“Workers have turned down both pay deals by a massive margin - with inflation rampant they are basically a pay cut.

“In the season of goodwill, surely it’s time for Innovia bosses to give some back to their loyal workforce?”
