Workers at Walsall based CNC Speedwell have voted to take strike action in a dispute over pay. Following protests last year, they managed to secure the first pay rise in five years, but this still left them as the lowest paid workers in the parent company, Castings PLC Group.

GMB Union submitted a pay claim that would bring them in line with other workers and Union members have rejected several offers that fell short of this.

Stuart Richards, GMB Senior Organiser, said:

"The majority of the shop floor at CNC Speedwell are migrant workers and they've had years of being treated like the poor relations in Castings PLC.

"All they're asking for is to be treated like their colleagues working at the site across the road.

"The last offer from the company fell short of what our members need and was rejected.

"While GMB Union Reps wanted to continue negotiating, management have walked out of the last set of talks. We have no alternative but to continue and take strike action".
