GMB Trade Union - Discrimination against pregnant employees and working mums nothing new

It’s completely unacceptable to GMB Union and should be unacceptable to Ministers and business

GMB, the union for working mums and women, has commented on a TUC survey, which shows on the impact of employer attitudes to working mums and pregnant employees during the Covid-19 crisis.

Rehana Azam, GMB National Secretary, said:

"The findings are shocking but come as no surprise to GMB. Discrimination against pregnant employees and working mums is nothing new – and is not a result of the covid-19 outbreak.

“It’s completely unacceptable to GMB and should be similarly unacceptable to Ministers and business alike.

"GMB calls on the government to speak out about the treatment of women during this crisis and we call on employers to stamp out this treatment of women workers.

“We call on women to join GMB - we will assist you in pursuing justice where employers have disgracefully and illegally used your role as a working mum or as a pregnant woman to dismiss you from your job or to reduce your pay during this pandemic.”
