GMB Union has today [Monday] demanded as end to the Doncaster pension 'rip-off' which sees hundreds of workers pay over pay each month.
Since 2019, staff across the local authority including street cleaners, gritters, adult and child social carers have had their pensionable overtime payments calculated monthly rather than annually.
Council workers are part of the Local Government Pay Scheme - yet Doncaster is thought to be the only council in the country to funnel the cash in toe general pension fund, rather than workers' own individual pots.
GMB has launched a campaign calling for a refund of workers' overpayments and potentially compensation.
Sarah Barnes, GMB Organiser said:
"Doncaster council staff do incredible work for our great city, yet those who provide vital out of hours services including clearing falling trees, placing children into emergency foster care and vital road gritting are losing out monthly.
"This is another example of Doncaster Council being out of step with the national picture.
"GMB members have had enough of have their pensions contributions being ripped off. It’s time the leadership step in to correct this injustice."
