GMB Trade Union - Family fun day for Birmingham's equal pay crisis

Thousands of council workers could be owed hundreds of thousands of pounds

Dozens turned out for a family fun day to raise awareness of Birmingham City Council’s looming Equal Pay crisis.

Revellers enjoyed face-painting, food and music at the event in outside Aston Hall, Aston.

At the event, GMB shared information about the council’s admission that key roles had been evaluated wrongly, opening the door to possible legal proceedings and industrial action, being considered in response.

GMB has urged its 7,000 members at Birmingham City Council not to sign any equal pay settlement offers from their employer.

Michelle McCrossen, GMB Organiser, said:

“People young and old had a lovely time at GMB’s event – a reminder of what a friendly bunch we are here in Birmingham.

“But there was a serious message behind today – thousands of people could be owed hundreds of thousands of pounds.

“We urge all council workers to join GMB and claim what is rightfully theirs.”
