GMB Trade Union - GMB pulls out of NHS PRB

GMB Union has pulled of the NHS Pay Review Body (PRB) process as health unions write en masse to the Secretary of State today [Friday]

GMB - which represents more than 50,000 NHS staff, around half of which are ambulance workers - was the only major union to engage with the PRB during the 2025/26 pay round. [1]

Despite giving the body one last chance to reform, GMB members' wishes fell on deaf PRB ears.

Meanwhile the 14 unions representing staff on 'Agenda for Change' contracts within the NHS - including GMB - have written jointly to health secretary Wes Streeting urging him to honour a commitment made last year to tackle the problems in the pay system that are harming staffing and morale.

Unions say these talks must now include the pay award for 2026.

Sharon Wilde, GMB National Officer, said:

"GMB was the only major union to engage with the process last year, giving the body one last chance to listen to our members' concerns.

"It failed miserably. The PRB is clearly past it's sell by date and should be out to pasture."
