GMB Trade Union - 'Gruesome' ONS figures show keyworkers need urgent protection

New ONS figures on covid-19 related deaths show keyworkers need urgent protections to be put in place, GMB Union has said.

The data show that workers in care, security, professional driving, nursing and other occupations are the most likely to die from the killer virus.

John Phillips, Acting GMB General Secretary, said:

“These gruesome figures show why keyworkers urgently need much better protection in the workplace.

“The fact that low paid workers are particularly at risk highlights the gaping inequality in our society.

"Nobody wants to get Britain back working more than GMB, but it has to be done safely. The Government's current guidance is simply not fit to halt this horrifying death toll.”
