Labour shipbuilding announcement 'massive boost

GMB Union has responded to Labour's shipbuilding announcements today [Sunday] - including a new £115 million research ship to be built in the UK.

Charlotte Brumpton-Childs, GMB National Secretary, said:

“Today’s announcement is a massive boost for the UK’s proud shipbuilding sector.

“These yards have kept our country safe; from the ships that beat the Armada to those that sunk the Bismarck.

“But for too long juicy contracts have been sent to overseas - often subsidised - yards. This policy could reinvigorate UK yards and the communities that depend on them.”
