GMB Union has welcomed the Government's school based nurseries programme.
Stacey Booth, GMB National Officer for schools, said:
“GMB has long campaigned for investment in early years provision. We are glad to have a Government that has listened to the expertise of our early years educator members.
“But with teachers now getting incentives to stay in the profession, we need the same offer to early years practitioners. Too often those in the nursery sector have their skills overlooked and undervalued - leading to workforce shortages.
“Skilled nursery staff are vital for children’s social, emotional and educational development. Only through a strategy that values them can we transform children’s life chances.”
