GMB Union has welcomed a Government pledge to invest £3 billion to create 50,000 more places for children with special educational needs in mainstream schools.
Stacey Booth, GMB National Officer, said:
“This investment is welcome and long overdue.
“Too many children are being failed; often having to wait by having to wait years for the help they need due to chronic underfunding.
“This money cannot come without investment in the workforce.
“GMB demands an end to level one pay for teaching assistants who provide support to our most vulnerable children.
“This would be a first step in recognising their work.”
