South East Water has today announced a hosepipe ban for Kent after the company leaked 104.8 million litres per day last year.
Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:
“South East Water lost 105 million litres of water through leaks every single day last year.
“That’s 38 billion litres over the year - meanwhile they haven’t even been able to do the basics, like making sure people have clean water when they turn on their taps.
“Workers at South East Water desperately try and keep the water supply flowing, but they’re hamstrung by crumbling infrastructure and non-existent investment.
“For South East Water to now impose a hosepipe is indescribably poor.”
