GMB Trade Union - Stoke Council tries to tear up terms and conditions of Stoke key workers

Stoke City Council top brass have threatened to remove key workplace protections of staff across the authority.

GMB Union, representing thousands of key workers across Stoke-on-Trent local government, have today spoken out against the City Council’s attempts to remove key workplace protections from workers at the authority.

In an email to all staff Jon Rouse, Stoke City Director, outlined a shopping list of attacks from slashing sick worker protections to cuts to key pay benefits.

Colin Griffiths, GMB Senior Organiser, said:

“This is a shocking and completely un-warranted attack from the council’s leadership against some of the hardest working public servants our City has.

“Our union will fight these changes tooth and nail, and our members have made their feeling known on the changes.

“These are changes impacting every worker across the Council, but inevitably will hit disproportionately low paid women workers at the Council.

“We’re speaking with our members in the coming days and will be organising and campaigning across the Council to stop these attacks.”
