Mitie Optional Salary Advance

Posted on:

Dear ASDA Security Members,

Please see email below from Mitie regarding an optional salary-advance (bridging loan), including how to apply. The deadline for submitting these applications is no later than 5:00pm on Friday 3rd April 2026.

Re: Mitie Optional Salary Advance

Following recent discussions regarding the transfer of Security services from Asda to Mitie, we would like to provide information on the bridging loan option being offered to employees in scope who have agreed to the transfer their employment.

The transfer took effect on 29 March 2026 under TUPE regulations. We recognise that changing employers can sometimes create short-term financial pressure, particularly around pay dates, and we want to ensure colleagues feel supported during this period.

Optional salary advance (bridging loan) - To help with the transition, Mitie is offering an optional two-week salary advance, paid on 20 April 2026, for colleagues whose employment has transferred to Mitie and who choose to apply.

Key points to be aware of:

  • The advance is interest-free (0%)
  • Repayment will be spread over six months, taken automatically through payroll
  • Taking the advance is completely optional
  • It does not affect the employees terms and conditions of employment following the transfer

We would appreciate your support in sharing the request form below with your members to ensure those who wish to take up the advance have sufficient notice to submit their request.

How to apply – Any employees that wish to request a salary advance must do so by completing the online form using the link below:

Salary Advance Form – ASDA

All requests must be submitted no later than 5:00pm on 3 April 2026. Unfortunately, we are unable to process applications received after this deadline or forms that are incomplete.

Direct communication has been issued to employees following the transfer, advising them of their option to request a salary advance. Our MiNews newsletter and FAQs have also been updated and shared.

Yours sincerely,

Rebecca Bannerman

A message for ASDA Security Guards transferring to Mitie,

As we now know, your employment will be transferred on 29th March 2026. Mitie have so far guaranteed you the same terms and conditions.

From our experience, TUPE procedures protect staff for a while, but there is a risk of pay and conditions getting worse over time if workers do not fight to keep what they have.

The GMB trade union want to ensure your new employer has a duty to negotiate with a recognised trade union on your pay, hours and holidays as well as consulting with us on changes that impact you.

Many of you are GMB members already meaning that if Mitie don’t want to recognise your union voluntarily, we can make an application for recognition which gives you a vote on whether you want the union to be recognised legally.

The future depends on how you and your colleagues navigate the next couple of months. If you all stick together in GMB, we can ensure we protect those who protect others. If there was ever a time to get a colleague to join, it is now.

We want everyone to be informed about what happens next so please share this link below with your colleagues so we can gather everyone’s contact details and share information as we progress.

We will keep you informed of any developments and will be out and about in stores to speak directly with security colleagues where possible.

ASDA SECURITY EQUAL PAY

Posted on:

Dear ASDA Security Colleagues,

GMB has been working hard to ensure you are treated fairly through this TUPE process to Mitie, we meet weekly with Mitie to raise your concerns and get answers to your questions.

Our members have been raising the issue of the claw back payment Mitie want to make for the cost of you obtaining your SIA license, we have raised this with Mitie who acknowledge this isn't currently a contractual arrangement for security colleagues and will be reviewing whether they maintain this requirement. We will update you on their response in due course.

We also want you to know that any security colleague who is not yet part of the GMB's equal pay claim against ASDA could miss out entirely if they don't act quickly to lodge a claim. Any security colleague whose employment transfers to Mitie on the 29th March has until this date to join the claim against ASDA.

If you haven't already you can follow the QR code below or click this link gmb.org.uk/asda-equal-pay-claim to complete our equal pay claim form, you must be a GMB member to be part of the GMB claim.

We know there is a lot of concern about what ASDA security might look like post transfer. We are seeking assurances from Mitie and ASDA that there will be no reduction in hours or change to work location post TUPE. We will update you on these conversations.

To ensure you have union protection under Mitie we are doing all we can to ensure GMB continues to be your recognised trade union, this will allow us to continue representing you collectively and will ensure you have a say over your pay, hours and conditions. We are in talks with Mitie and will keep you updated on this.

In solidarity,

Your GMB Negotiating Team
