GMB Trade Union - GMB to ballot NHS members over 'real terms pay cut'

No hesitation in recommending members reject the 3% proposal

GMB Union has no hesitation in recommending members reject the 3% pay proposal and no hesitation in supporting members if they want to take action

GMB Union is to ballot members on the 3% NHS pay increase – which amounts to another real terms pay cut.

The announcement on pay, which comes four months late, is just 3% - far below the current inflation rate of 3.9%.

A miserly 3% is simply not good enough. We have no hesitation in recommending members vote to reject the 3% and no hesitation in supporting members if they want to take action.

GMB is campaigning for a 15% pay increase to make up for a decade of pay cuts under the Conservatives.

The ballot opens on Friday, August 6 and closes six weeks later on September 17.

GMB is recommending members to reject the 3%.

GMB was the only union to reject the last NHS pay deal in 2018 – which was also another real terms pay cut.

Rachel Harrison, GMB National Officer, said:

“A miserly 3% is simply not good enough. It’s another real terms pay cut and after the year health workers have had it’s downright offensive.

"GMB is calling for a restorative 15% increase to make up for a decade of slashed pay under the Conservatives.

“We have no hesitation in recommending members vote to reject the 3% and no hesitation in supporting members if they want to take action.”
