GMB Trade Union - Northampton nursery caught trying to sack key workers

GMB Union won’t let our members be bullied out the door by holiday-home executives say GMB Union

A Northampton nursery has been slammed for trying to fire key workers in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

Management at the Gloucester Road Nursery have been exposed by GMB Union deliberately ignoring advice from the TUC and the Government to avoid restructuring until the pandemic is over.

The nursery, rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED, is one of only two council-run nurseries in Northampton, and has been a corner stone of the community for more than 70 years.

Now management, predicting a fall in admissions this September, is attempting to give the boot to several hard-working staff members.

David Warwick, GMB Organiser said:

“The ice-hearted behaviour of the management towards the staff here is sickening. This is a proud and brilliant nursery with dedicated staff members who are now facing the sack in the middle of a global pandemic.

“The nursery is the heart of this community and we demand any talk of firing staff is halted immediately. It’s causing great anguish to the workers and uncertainty for the parents and children.

“GMB Union won’t let our members be bullied out the door by holiday-home executives when they’re just trying to serve their community.
