A plan to slash a ‘dysfunctional’ social care development fund will pave the way for proper training linked to fair pay.
Stephen Kinnock, Minister for Care, has today announced the Training and Development Fund for social care will be scrapped in the wake of the £22 billion black hole identified by the Chancellor.
Labour’s manifesto pledged sectoral bargaining and fair pay agreements for care workers.
Natalie Grayson, GMB National Officer, said:
“GMB has long called for the professionalisation of care.
“But this scheme was dysfunctional and did not provide the real care qualifications these dedicated professionals need.
“Removing it must pave the way for fit for purpose training linked to fair pay agreements.”
