More than 50 Thanet refuse collectors will begin an industrial action ballot over management failures.
GMB members say they have had enough of bearing the brunt of the public’s frustrations and the councillors’ excuses over the state of refuse collection in the district.
GMB has written to the council to raise a collective grievance over members concerns.
The indicative industrial action ballot ends on 4 September and, if successful, the next stage could be a full strike ballot.
Frank Macklin, GMB Organiser said:
“GMB has told Thanet District Council our members have had enough of how the service is being run.
“They have lost all faith in the council being able to run the service properly.
“GMB members requested this ballot for industrial action - unless the council takes immediate action to bring the service back to standard.
"We will not allow the workforce to be scapegoated and blamed for the current failings in the Cleansing Service.
“GMB and our members are committed to working with the council to bring the cleansing service back, but our members will not continue to bear the brunt of the public’s frustrations and the councillor’s excuses.”
