Uber must help UK drivers with the fuels crisis in the same way the company has offered a relief package to its drivers in Australia, GMB has said.
Drivers for the ridesharing giant in Australia are now being paid an extra 5 cents per kilometre, it has been announced. [1]
GMB Union has twice called on Uber and other operators for similar help for UK drivers, but has so far not received a positive response.
Eamon O'Hearn, GMB National Officer, said:
"This announcement from Australia shows Uber understands the terrible pressure drivers are under right now.
"It raises the question of why they aren't offering help to drivers in the UK?
"GMB members driving for Uber are being crushed between rocketing fuel prices and the cost of living crisis.
"We're calling on Uber and all operators to support drivers before they are forced from the profession."
